QUALIFICATIONSEducation
  • Graduate of an approved school of nursing
Experience/Skills
  • Two years experience in physician’s office or related experience (preferred, but not required).
  • Background in medical-surgical nursing and immunizations
  • Knowledge of clinic function
  • Ability to work in conjunction with other clinic personnel
  • Knowledge of community health resources for alternate health services
  • Knowledge of community health nursing principles and practices.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in written reports
Required Licenses/Certifications
  • RN Licensure in the State of Indiana
  • CPR

ROUTINE RESPONSIBILITIESEssential Functions
  • Escorts patient to exam rooms and assesses patients per clinic protocols
  • Obtains and thoroughly documents vital signs, chief complaint
  • Updates medication lists, and verifies allergies
  • Updates the patient’s medical and social history, as appropriate
  • Prepares patient for examination and assists as necessary
  • Ensures that ordered tests results are in the patient record and available for Practitioner review at time of patient examination
  • Sends patient letter of intent to have prescribed orders completed if no record found in chart
  • Assures adequate patient records are maintained and transferred as requested
  • Obtains consent for procedures as directed
  • Collects lab specimens and prepares specimen for transport according to policy
  • Assists provider in procedures including but not limited to dressing changes, pelvic exams, laceration repairs, injections, and aspirations
  • Utilizes appropriate aseptic technique
  • Cleans instruments and prepares them for sterilization according to policy
  • Maintains current knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on age of the patient and current clinical condition
  • Follows the five rights of medication administration in order to reduce the potential for error
  • Documents in the patient record all medication administered and tests performed in a timely and accurate manner. Charges appropriately
  • Formulates a teaching plan based on identified learning needs and involves patient and family in education
  • Knowledgeable in growth and development principals and provides age appropriate care
  • Schedules patient for further testing as directed by the Practitioner
  • Keeps track of follow-up labs, wellness checks for future patient reminders
  • Maintains knowledge of rules and regulations governing the clinic
  • Phones-in prescription refills as directed by the Practitioner
  • Responds to emergency situations appropriately and immediately
  • Calls 911 as necessary
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Clinic Responsibilities
  • Ensures that exam rooms and patient accessible areas are safe and that likelihood of patient injury is reduced
  • Assures that examination rooms are full at all times and that patients are seen in an orderly and fair manner
  • Ensures that acutely ill or injured patients are triaged and seen first
  • Explains delays and waiting times to patients and families
  • Records all phone conversations and information given to the patient in the medical record to provide for clear communication among all clinic staff
  • Maintains knowledge of lab collection policy and procedures
  • Performs quality controls for tests and documents results as per policy
  • Monitors and records oxygen tanks monthly
  • Checks AED monthly. Records activity
  • Performs API QC during the year on all tests resulted at site
  • Checks for outdates on supplies and medications on an ongoing basis
  • Inventories medications upon receiving and disposing. Inventories, orders and manages the VFC medications
  • Documents accordingly
  • Monitors and records refrigerator temperatures daily
  • Participates in professional development and assumes responsibility for keeping knowledge of skills current
Office Responsibilities
  • Answers telephone calls in a professional manner and refers patient problems to Practitioner
  • Interacts professionally with patients and families. Exhibits ability to prioritize and organize work
  • Follows through on assigned tasks
  • Participates in departmental performance improvement activities by collecting, analyzing, and reporting data
  • Knowledgeable of and compliant with clinic policies and procedures
  • Exhibits cooperation and positive attitude and maintains a good working relationship with all clinic staff
  • Completes incident reports and forwards to Practitioner when appropriate
  • Completes routine equipment checks and stock supplies\
  • Orders supplies as needed
  • Monitors, orders, and stocks exam rooms with supplies as needed.
