The primary responsibility of this position is to teach and supervise in the Undergraduate Physical Education Teacher Education Program, which is preparing to seek SHAPE America and CAEP accreditation, with an emphasis on student teaching supervision, pedagogy, and movement courses, within a standard 12-credit hour teaching load per term with one release for research; the ideal candidate will bring the expertise and commitment needed to support accreditation readiness efforts.DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
TEACHING: (35%)· Teach PE pedagogy and movement/activity courses effectivelyusing a variety of methods. (Student-centered learning, servicelearning, traditional face to face, and online teaching modalities)· Develop syllabi and teaching materials related to theoretical and activitycourses taught.· Supervise student teaching (physical education & health education)· Supervise clinical and internship placements in preK-12 settings.OTHER PRIMARY DUTIES: (15%)· Advising Undergraduate majors in Physical Education and Health Education· Engage in assessment activities related to accreditation and programevaluation.RESEARCH: (25%)
· Engage in scholarly research and creative activity at the regional, national, and/or international level · Publish original work in peer-reviewed journals.SERVICE: (25%)· Serve on committees at the department, college and University levels· Serve on any special task forces, professional, community, and/or state andnational professional organizations.Required EducationAcademic and Professional Experience:· A terminal degree in Physical Education Pedagogy (teacher education) or related field.· Earned 60 hours of credit towards the doctoral degree; completion of degree within the first year of employment (ABD) may be considered.Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities· An ability working collegially with individuals from culturally diverse and ethnic backgrounds, including colleagues from other programs, community leaders, policy-making bodies and PE associations.· Presentations & publications accepted at the regional, national, and/or international level.· Advising students enrolled in the undergraduate and graduate programs.· Teaching with various technology, including both online, face-to-face, and hybrid formats.· Effective oral and written communication skills
Preferred Qualifications· Record of submitting as well as receiving competitive grants or externally funded awards.· Experience recruiting and working with diverse student populations including students with diverse learning needs.· Experience with curriculum development, implementation, and improvement.· Experience with accreditation procedures.· Evidence of three years or more of successful teaching/administrative experience in higher education in a physical education setting as evident by evaluations· American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certification· American Red Cross Instructor Certification (First Aid/CPR/AED/ Emergency)· Driver and Health Education Endorsement
Special RequirementsLicense:· Professional Educator License (PEL) with PE endorsement or equivalent.
