The agency is seeking to hire an independent, highly organized candidate with a positive attitude to perform complex paraprofessional duties for the Arson Investigations Division. This position processes and responds timely to Arson FOIA requests on behalf of the Division, ensuring compliance with FOIA policies. The ideal candidate works independently and is a detail-oriented, self-starter and has experience in the coordination of various complex office support functions. As the Arson FOIA Coordinator and employee of the State of Illinois, the selected candidate will have access to state healthcare, benefits, and a pension plan. - As the Arson Division FOIA Specialist, collects data needed to respond to subpoena/Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests and works closely with Agency FOIA Officer and FOIA Clerk.
- Performs a variety of complex, specialized paraprofessional functions as directed by the Office of the State Fire Marshal (OSFM) Arson division management and staff members.
- Conducts investigations and studies affecting program operations and internal controls which have direct impact on the credibility of the Agency.
- Performs other duties as assigned or required which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
- Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to two (2) years of secretarial/business college and one (1) year of office experience, OR completion of high school and three (3) years of office experience, OR three (3) years of independent business experience.
- Requires the ability to keyboard accurately at 30 wpm.
- Prefers four (4) or more years of progressively responsible experience in an office setting.
- Prefers two (2) years of experience working with a variety of agency policies and directives as they relate to FOIA administrative processing and records retention.
- Prefers two (2) or more years of experience handling and maintaining highly confidential information.
- Prefers three (3) or more years of experience organizing and executing office operations.
- Prefers one (1) year of experience working in a legal environment in relation to FOIA.
- Prefers two (2) years of experience analyzing data and preparing reports based on findings.
- Prefers two (2) years of experience utilizing a records management system for tracking purposes.
- Prefers five (5) or more years in the utilization of MS Office programs which include MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Teams and Outlook.
- Requires a valid State ID.
- Requires the ability to pass a background check.
- Requires the ability to pass drug screening.
- Requires the ability to travel in performance of duties with overnight stays as appropriate.
- This position is considered sedentary work as defined by the U.S. Department of Labor (20 CFR 404.1567(a)). Sedentary work involves lifting no more than 10 pounds at a time and requires occasional lifting, carrying, walking, and standing.
