Learn more at https://www.jnj.com/ (https://www.jnj.com/).The Business Unit Leader, Absorbable Biomaterial Components will be responsible for managing production personnel to maximize quality and output for the Absorbable Business Unit within the Ethicon Athens and Cornelia, Georgia locations. This leader will also be accountable for achieving production targets while maintaining cost controls and driving the organization to a world-class benchmark within the Ethicon manufacturing network. Responsible for managing all operations related to manufacturing, materials, facilities., distribution, engineering and maintenance to ensure smooth, continuous, cost effective and controlled manufacture of products in support of the business' forecasts and inventory goals. Directs Managers and/or senior individual contributors in a matrix environment and is accountable for meaningful career development conversations and regular coaching and feedback. Administers the internal Manufacturing Assembly plan and develops processes and procedures that support business goals. Monitors initiatives and oversees timelines, approvals, and communication plans. Contributes to planning of strategic initiatives and serves as a primary point of contact for internal and external stakeholders.Key Role Responsibilities
- Directs Managers and/or senior individual contributors in a matrix environment, and is accountable for meaningful career development conversations and regular coaching and feedback.
- Contributes to the planning and integration of new production processes, and presents analyses of manufacturing performance to leadership.
- Advises on organizational standards for quality inspection, production control, inventory, and procurement to ensure compliance.
- Develops relationships with key leaders to coordinate Manufacturing Assembly improvement initiatives.
- Communicates strategically to ensure optimal use of manufacturing staff and assembly line machinery/equipment.
- Responsible for managing operational aspects of their teams (e.g., budget, performance, and compliance), as well as implementing workforce and succession plans to meet business needs.
- Proactively creates a purpose driven environment by aligning Johnson & Johnson’s Credo and Leadership Imperatives with the strategies and goals of the team and enterprise.
- Leads and directs the production operations in both Athens and Cornelia sites.
- Collaborates with all relevant departments to determine production goals and communicates targets to assigned department. Establishes production priorities and sequence of manufacturing projects.
- Reviews manufacturing issues to assess any potential risks (quality, safety, environmental, etc.) to operation.
- Monitors production output against customer due dates and initiates action to prevent missed commitments.
- Examines production and operating reports and oversees actions taken to resolve operational, manufacturing, and maintenance problems.
- Ensures awareness of plant personnel in the areas of safety and quality. Reviews programs within these areas and plant compliance records.
- Makes sure training plans are aligned with areas in need of improvement.
- Reviews and approves standard operational and working practices. Recommends modifications as appropriate.
- Approves business unit’s operational budget. Initiates effective cost control practices.
- Evaluates and approves recommendations regarding equipment repair and/or replacement.
- Leads, develops and motivates the team to achieve and improve upon monthly and yearly operating results.
- Identifies growth opportunities and optimization of operating performance.
- Oversees all operational processes and partner closely with supporting functions including Quality Operations, Compliance, Engineering, Maintenance, HR, Finance, Planning, Health, Safety and Environmental to ensure execution and compliance.
- Drives strategic projects to optimize the local supply chain, product and process quality and to reduce costs and move the organization to a world-class benchmark.
- Effectively manages and resources human, material, and capital resources to meet quality, customer service, financial, EH&S, and product and process improvement targets.
- Develops and sustains a culture of waste reduction for sustained improvement in product and process quality.
- Ensures close collaboration with Quality Operations so that the Quality System is regularly audited/reviewed and that appropriate preventive and corrective actions are identified and executed to improve quality results.
- Ensures fulfillment of all safety, industrial hygiene, environmental and labor regulatory requirements.
- Drives identification and successful implementation of cost improvement projects (CIP’s).
- Recommends and implements employee development programs to raise the associate’s capabilities.
- Develops solid succession plans that have “ready now” associates for key positions.
- Creates a compelling work environment in which every associate is valued and recognized for their contribution to our success.
- Builds and continues to develop a strong, solid, cohesive team that is aligned, inclusive and confident in openly challenging the leaders and each other.

- Accurately complete records as defined within the job procedures (e.g. manual and/or electronic documentation).
- Consistently meet required Training due date targets.
- Responsible for communicating business related issues or opportunities to next management level
- Responsible for following all Company guidelines related to Health, Safety and Environmental practices as applicable.
- For those who supervise or manage a staff, responsible for ensuring that subordinates follow all Company guidelines related to Health, Safety and Environmental practices and that all resources needed to do so are available and in good condition, if applicable
- Responsible for ensuring personal and Company compliance with all Federal, State, local and Company regulations, policies, and procedures
- Performs other duties assigned as needed
- Bachelor of Engineering / Science or equivalent Technical qualification
- Generally, Requires 10-12 Years Relevant Work Experience
- 3+ Years of Experience in Senior Management function
- Strong leadership qualities
- Experience with Healthcare Compliance/Regulatory Requirements and Quality Systems audit by major Regulatory Bodies
- Six Sigma or Lean Belt Certification recommended
- The anticipated travel for this position is 10%
