- Review project plans, specifications, and addenda to develop comprehensive and competitive cost estimates.
- Perform accurate quantity takeoffs for piping, fixtures, equipment, and accessories using estimating software or manual methods.
- Solicit and evaluate bids from subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers.
- Prepare detailed bid proposals and cost breakdowns for submission to GCs or clients.
- Coordinate with project managers, engineers, & designers to clarify scope and resolve discrepancies.
- Monitor current market conditions, material costs, and labor rates to ensure up-to-date and competitive pricing.
- Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, and job walks as needed.
- Assist with value engineering & cost-saving recommendations during the pre-construction phase.
- Maintain historical cost data and update the estimating database.
- Education: High school diploma or GED required; degree in Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field preferred
- Experience: 3+ years of estimating experience, preferably in commercial or industrial construction.
- Plumbing/Piping knowledge a plus.
- Experience with BIM coordination or 3D modeling is advantageous.
- Familiarity with LEED or sustainable plumbing practices.
- Strong knowledge of codes, standards, materials, and installation practices.
- Proficiency with estimating software (e.g., Trimble, Bluebeam, FastPIPE, or equivalent) and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent math, analytical, and organizational skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, schematics, and specifications.
