The purpose of this position is to plan, design, implement and maintain the City’s server infrastructure to meet the needs of the City.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Manages the City’s server environment, including physical, virtual and cloud-based systems.
  • Engineers and administers high availability Microsoft Clusters with Storage Area Networks (SANs).
  • Provides enterprise Active Directory planning, engineering and maintenance, including on-premise and Azure.
  • Performs migration of on-premise and cloud infrastructure.
  • Maintains, monitors, manages and performs resource planning for the Virtual Machine (VM) environment using industry virtualization tools.
  • Deploys new VM servers, upgrades and patches vSphere hosts and clusters.
  • Installs, maintains and monitors server backup systems (physical, virtual and cloud based).
  • Participates in Business Continuity Plan (BCP)/Disaster Recovery (DR) planning and testing.
  • Provides support of network infrastructure to ensure successful performance and secure operation of the enterprise network.
  • Develops usage and security metrics to allow for the detection of abnormal activities.
  • Administers overall network and server security including penetration and vulnerability testing.
  • Performs security audits from internal and external parties.
  • Investigates security incidents, researches and implements solutions.
  • Identifies and remediates server and endpoint vulnerabilities.
  • Manages O365 Exchange Online including email filtering platforms.

Job Specifications and Qualifications:Knowledge:
  • Virtualization with VMware
  • Storage Area Network (SAN), Storage and Redundant Array of Independent Disks (RAID)
  • Active Directory: Group Policy, Trusts, Sites and Services, Domain Name System (DNS), Distributed File System (DFS), and Public Key Infrastructure (PKI)
  • Windows Server and Linux (Ubuntu, CentOS)
  • Exchange Online, Office 365, Hybrid solutions and migration, email filters
  • Hosted and Cloud solutions (Azure and AWS)
  • Backup solutions and Disaster Recovery
  • Exhaustive knowledge of the City’s enterprise network
  • Networking methods, materials and equipment
  • Network protocols, control and monitoring software
  • Administering Microsoft Server products, including SQL Server and IIS
  • PC systems hardware, software, and peripheral equipment
  • Department and City policies & procedures
Licensing and Certifications:
  • All relevant IT licenses and certifications considered.
  • Valid North Carolina Driver’s License

Required Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, or Computer Engineering/Science from an accredited college or university with at least three (3) years of relevant experience; or the City may consider an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
  • Municipal government experience preferred.
