- Functions as primarily a design and development position with total responsibility for developing and launching into production seat comfort systems including lumbar and massage designs for our customers
- Ensure that product is designed within various industry quality standards according to applicable specification in a safe, cost efficient and timely manner while following the APQP process
- Act as a technical liaison between customer and project management
- Initiate, review, and release design FMEA's, DVP&R, BOM, and drawings
- Attend, support, and participate in engineering development meetings and program launches with the customer
- Assist in the establishment of system requirements and specifications using correct engineering and technical disciplines
- Assure that project timing, performance, and cost targets are met
- Develop designs based off customer requirements and specifications
- Establish a design review team, lead design reviews, and audit design progress through product life cycle
- Assure product testing is completed, analyzed, and that results are documented and communicated
- Support production and quality departments with design related issues through product validation
- Lead product improvement and cost reduction efforts through the product life cycle
- Continuously improve existing product design and internal processes to increase customer satisfaction
- Involved from concept inception through production launch of components and assemblies.
- Arrange, conduct, and supervise testing to prove the design is viable
- Assure that full validation test cycle is conducted to prove that the part design meets design specification
- Support of Project Management process, providing documentation and cross functional involvement through product launch
- Other duties as assigned
- Experience with OEM or Tier 1 automotive part design, seating design, and development a plus
- Ability to read and comprehend basic engineering drawings, tooling prints, and product and test specifications
- Able to interpret e-mail communication and prioritize assigned tasks
- Experience in design, development, and manufacturing of automotive products
- Detailed familiarity with automotive product development and project monitoring tools, including DFMEA, PFMEA, PPAP, APQP
- Ability to successfully interface with customers, associates, and the community
- Experience with Engineering problem solving techniques
- Four-year Engineering degree
- Direct CAD experience and demonstrated CAD capabilities in NX and/or CATIA V5
- Experience with GD&T and tolerance stack analysis
- Strong familiarity with plastics, injection molding capabilities, and assembly and test processes
- Experience with injection molding methods and equipment
- Experience with simulation tools (such as FEA, CFD etc.)
