Our sales team is trained across all of our products to give our customers insights into our entire portfolio.Mechanical Design Engineer, SeniorJob Description:We are seeking a mechanical engineer to work with the MACOM team in Melbourne, FL. This design and analysis position requires the applicant to use and apply mechanical engineering skills to develop 3D models for a variety of semiconductor and optical components as well as printed circuit boards and housings. The applicant will have to use these 3D models to perform a feasibility analysis of the placement and mechanical fit for the group of components within an optical industry standard package such as QSFP28. Additionally, the applicant must perform a thermal analysis for the layout and package using the estimated power consumption for the critical components. In order to create the appropriate 3D models and thermal analysis, the applicant should ideally be proficient using Solidworks 3D and a thermal analysis tool such as Icepak. The applicant will work very closely with the electrical engineering team to ensure the models and analysis are as accurate and realistic as possible.The applicant must be able to create innovative mechanical engineering designs for high volume production applications as well as test fixtures which are used to mass produce optical communications modules. A significant amount of experience creating detailed drawings and 3D models for both machined and die cast components is a must. The applicant will be required to work with external vendors to have these designs fabricated using the detailed 3D models/drawings. The applicant must be able to perform tolerance analysis, material selection, part inspection, create a bill of materials, perform assembly drawing release, and design for manufacturability.Additionally, experience designing 1U to 3U chassis is desirable, these are used with electronics to create customized test equipment for a production environment. Any experience with high speed communications products or fiber optic components would be extremely beneficial but not required.This position requires the ability to work in a small team environment so the applicant must communicate effectively with peers and management and must also be able to plan the given engineering project, multi-task, and manage unplanned or unexpected tasks.Job Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • 5 years of relevant industry experience
  • Due to ITAR regulations, candidate must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident
