
Research Scientist I

- Train users in specific research protocols; develop training materials. Assist users in learning 2D and 3D image processing, analysis and visualization software for handling optical, X-ray CT, nuclear molecular imaging, and multimodality image fusion.
- Maintain equipment, including operating and monitoring the cardio-respiratory gating and anesthesia systems and scheduling maintenance as needed. Ensures that the system hardware and software are functioning properly.
- Supervise and maintain the laser safety, radiation safety, and biosafety protocols for safe and appropriate use of optical, X-ray, and nuclear molecular imaging scanners.
- Train users and conduct optical imaging as well as ionizing radiation based functional and molecular imaging procedures with targeted gamma radiation and positron emitting isotopes.
- Design and execute complex research procedures.
- Develop and perform routine and complex protocols for research programs.
- Coordinate research study activities; lead and manage projects.
- Assist in developing, implementing and monitoring quality activities.
- Collaborate with principle investigators in determining study design and performing statistical analyses.
- Perform and develop protocols for imaging data storage, dissemination, and archiving.
- Develop new methodologies for lab procedures.
- Maintain supplies, may negotiate with vendors, track purchase orders.
- Participate in meetings with principle investigator and research staff and evaluate/interpret the validity of data, develop methodologies, evaluate lab procedures.
- May oversee the work of laboratory personnel including training and development as well as daily work direction/delegation/prioritizing.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Knowledge of radioisotope handling, molecular imaging with targeted optical and radionuclide probes, biology, chemistry, mathematics, documentation, and records management.
- Data utilization, complex problem solving, critical thinking, resource management, and writing skills
