Job DetailsJob Location: Central Elementary School - Wilmette, ILPosition Type: Part Time Year RoundSalary Range: $18.00 - $21.00 HourlyJob Shift: VariousJob Category: RecreationDescriptionJOB SUMMARY: The After School Rec Assistant Site Coordinator plays a key leadership role in the day-to-day operation of the After School Rec (ASR) program. Working closely with the Site Coordinator, this position helps ensure program quality, staff accountability, child safety, and smooth transitions throughout the day. The Assistant Site Coordinator is expected to take the initiative, step into a leadership role when needed, and support all elements of program delivery, including activity planning, staff direction, and parent communication. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual with experience in youth programs to expand their leadership responsibilities in a supportive, team-oriented setting.SUPERVISORY DUTIES:Support the Site Coordinator in supervising ASR Counselors and maintaining a safe, structured environment for participants (Grades K-4)Help provide guidance and support to onsite staff during program hoursAssist the Site Coordinator in responding to emergencies and following proper proceduresModel positive interactions with youth and help onboard new counselorsSupport the implementation of program policies and procedures as directed by the Site CoordinatorHelp coordinate daily staff tasks and ensure counselors are following schedulesCommunicate with Park District departments (e.g., recreation staff, HR, transportation) as directed or neededESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Support the Site Coordinator in all aspects of daily operations and program leadershipTake lead in the Site Coordinator's absence, including staff direction, participant supervision, and site communicationAssist in mentoring, supporting, and guiding ASR CounselorsHelp coordinate and lead daily activities such as games, crafts, enrichment projects, and themed eventsMonitor and uphold child-to-staff ratios and safety standardsActively support behavior management, group transitions, and emergency response when neededServe as a positive role model for both staff and participantsContribute to the planning and execution of special events and theme days within the programCommunicate effectively with Site Coordinator, fellow staff, participants, and parents/guardiansCollaborate to ensure supplies are prepared, program spaces are organized, and transitions are smoothAssist with participant check-in/out and maintain accurate attendance when neededActively contribute to the Park District's sustainability goalsPerform other related duties as assigned, based on agency needsSAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES:Actively support the safety program that will effectively control and reduce accidentsObey the practical safety rules, regulations, and procedures established by the Wilmette Park District safety program that are pertinent to the activities conducted by the departmentBecome familiar with and follow the safety procedures of the Wilmette Park District, including, but not limited to, fire, severe weather, and evacuation proceduresPromptly report all unsafe actions, practices, or conditions observed to the immediate supervisor, Human Resources/Risk Management divisionAttend and participate in required safety trainingQUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The general work area is indoors, in a smoke-free environment, with controlled temperature and fluorescent lighting. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The outdoor work area depends on the season.HOURS:Follows the 2025-2026 D39 School CalendarMonday-Thursday: 3:00-6:00 PMFriday: 2:00-6:00 PMGeneral hours of duty will be approved by the Recreation Supervisor - School Age Programs and the Recreation General ManagerADDITIONAL OPPORTUNITIES:
This position follows the District 39 school year calendar and does not operate on non-school days. While there may be opportunities to pick up additional hours through special school-day-off programs (such as Rec on the Road or Rec at the Center), working these shifts is not required and availability is not guaranteed.Qualifications
