UPMC McKeesport is hiring a Casual Nursing Assistant/Patient Care Technician for their Resource Pool!This casual position requires 36 hours per 6-week schedule, 24 hours off shift (weekends or nights) every 12 weeks, and 1 holiday per year. In Resource, you'll have the ability to float throughout the hospital, assisting in various units as needed. Gain experience in patient care as you learn about all of our specialties!   • Activities of Daily Living (ADLs): Bathing, feeding, transporting, toileting, and ambulating patients.
  • UPMC Nursing Core Responsibilities: Blood glucose, weights, vital signs, I&O, specimen collections, Foley care.
  • Patient Restraints: Apply, monitor, and remove per physician or hospital protocol.
  • Diversional Activities: Reduce or prevent the use of restraints.
  • Companionship/Supervision: Provide one-on-one companionship/supervision as required.
Environment Maintenance
  • Safety and Recovery: Complete safety checks, keep department and patient rooms clean and organized.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Clean department-specific equipment, change bed linens, empty linen hampers, keep hallways clear of equipment, and return equipment.
  • Supply Management: Acquire and distribute supplies and equipment, perform messenger functions, order, charge/credit supplies, set up patient care equipment, stock patient rooms and unit supply areas.
Patient Support
  • Nourishments: Deliver patient nourishments, fill water pitchers, and distribute patient mail.
  • Universal Unit Activities: Respond to call lights and telephones, pass meal trays, and transport patients.
Communication and Feedback
  • Feedback to RN: Provide feedback regarding patient care, report changes in patient status.
Communication Strategies: Establish appropriate and effective communication strategies, and maintain professional and respectful interpersonal relationships.Medical Records: Document in the medical record according to established procedures.
  • High school diploma or equivalent. Title and pay rate may be adjusted based on years of experience and education.
  • Successful completion of UPMC nursing assistant or EIC training program
  • Knowledge of body mechanics and transfer techniques.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.
  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) preferred.
  • Access to medications is limited to the distribution of the medication to the nurse.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
