Job Description:The Materials Management Work/Driver (MMWD) is a developmental role supporting progression to Control Room Operator or Production Technician roles. Reports to the O&M Supervisor or Maintenance Manager and takes directions from the O&M Supervisor or Maintenance Manager to ensure a safe and efficient storeroom. The MMWD also supports maintenance of plant equipment as needed, within the scope outlined below. The Sewaren Generating Station is a 541 MW Dual Fuel Combined Cycle Plant located in Sewaren, NJ.Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Performs all aspects of Materials Management such as inventory, purchase of material and equipment up to approved level, invoices, deliveries.
  • Operates and makes minor repairs and adjustments to any material handling and transportation equipment such as forklifts, vans, trucks, automobiles.
  • Operates and maintains all equipment necessary to support Materials Management functions, such as power saws, replacing light bulbs, set-up shelving, painting. Maintain accurate storeroom logs per station and fleet procedures.
  • Execute general plant cleanup tasks.
  • Operate plant equipment, including pick-up trucks, plow trucks, forklifts, aerial lifts, and scissor lifts.
  • Use basic hand and power tools as qualified.
  • Support plant maintenance in a helper role.
  • Assist with storeroom tasks (receipting, issuing, inventory) under direct supervision.
  • Participate in On-the-Job Training (OJT), computer-based, and classroom training to build power plant operations knowledge.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Ability to follow simple instructions and complete routine tasks.
  • Aptitude for operations, technical, or mechanical work.
  • Strong observation skills and ability to communicate effectively via telephone/radio.
  • Legible handwriting and successful completion of pre-employment tests.

  • Working in varied outdoor environments such as all-weather conditions, all noise levels, hazardous conditions, and on the full range of outdoor work surfaces.
  • The frequent use of protective equipment (i.e., hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection, chemical suits, hot gloves, and high voltage protective equipment, etc.) may be required. Work with hazardous materials may also be required.
  • Working in proximity to high voltages and current with proper training and equipment, operating heavy equipment and rolling stock and entering confined spaces or hazardous environments may be required while often being exposed to equipment and machinery noises.
  • Duties require walking, standing for extended periods of time, crawling, stooping, sitting, climbing vertical and inclined ladders and stairs, operation of large valves and other tasks requiring up to 50 lbs. of pulling or turning force, and lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs.
  • Exposure to extreme heat and cold.
  • Eye and hand coordination are required to operate switches, pushbuttons, and other controls.
  • Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust and focus.
  • All candidates will participate in the post-offer physical examination and drug screening and post-employment random drug screening. There are extensive smoking restrictions in and around the facility.
  • This position requires extended working hours and varied shifts including weekend and holiday work. The ability to be “on call” may also be required.
Summary:Applicants must possess a valid driver's license and maintain a clean driving record, as this position requires occasional travel for company business.
