Title: Mechanical EngineerReports to: VP of EngineeringJOB SUMMARY:Mechanical Engineers work under general direction, applying their skills and expertise to generate solutions that require development or sustainment of new or improved techniques, procedures, systems or products. Responsibilities include assisting with planning, conducting, and evaluating approaches to meet project objectives in a timely, cost-effective fashion.Responsible for working with the Drafting Supervisor in managing the drafting department; familiar with calculations for ASME CODE compliance; work on own with minimal supervision. Successful Mechanical Engineers are self-motivated and work effectively in team or individual situations. They have excellent communication skills and can handle multiple projects and activities simultaneously.FUNCTIONS TO BE PERFORMED:
  • Evaluates mechanical and electromechanical systems and products by designing and conducting research programs; applying principles of mechanics, thermodynamics, hydraulics, heat transfer, and materials.
  • Develops mechanical and electromechanical products by studying customer requirements; researching and testing manufacturing and assembly methods and materials; soliciting observations from operators.
  • Produces details of specifications and outline designs
  • Assures system and product quality by designing testing methods; testing finished- product and system capabilities; confirming fabrication, assembly, and installation processes.
  • Maintains product and company reputation by complying with government regulations, ASME codes, and all other applicable codes and standards.
  • Works with the Drafting Supervisor to ensure timely completion date of projects
  • Completes projects by supervising work and working with others in the drafting department
  • Completes special projects as directed by the VP of Engineering and President
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  • Performs other related duties as required
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must have a high level of technical and scientific knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge in a manufacturing and industrial environment
  • Must have good oral communication skills and confidence in dealing with a range of people, including customers, vendors, and other employees in the office and on the production floor
  • Must have precise and concise verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be detail-oriented with good mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills
  • Must have/develop a working knowledge of ASME CODES (Pertaining to pressure vessels) Sections I and IV (Boiler pressure vessel related experience preferably Steam applications)
  • Must have the ability to work well within a team and assume a leadership role when required
  • Must have IT skills, particularly computer-aided design, drafting procedures, spreadsheets and word documents
  • Must have organizational skills, such as time and resource planning and the ability to work under pressure
  • Must be physically capable of the rigors of the position both in the office and the production floor
  • Must have at least a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering or related experience as well as experience in drafting -Entry level experience (new graduate or 1-2 years experience)
