Driven by the calling to “Reimagine Possible”, we are leading the charge toward a world in which human potential is no longer hindered by the burden of disease.DescriptionThe Senior Buyer is an active member of the Supply Chain Group and responsible for sourcing and purchasing manufacturing raw materials for the Company's biotechnology research and development activities. The function requires interaction and collaboration with different disciplines within the organization including Product Development, R&D, Manufacturing, Quality Assurance, Quality Control, Planning, Logistics, Engineering, Finance, Clinical, Facility Management, and Suppliers.Experience
  • Requires a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience with a Bachelor's Degree or 6 years of relevant experience with a Master's Degree
  • 3-5 years Biotech/Pharma experience preferred.
  • Experience with Quality and ERP systems a plus
  • Experience with developing RFQ/RFPs, negotiations, contracts, preparing financial analysis, material acquisition, expediting and coordination of shipping arrangements
  • Experience with managing multiple commodity areas and tasks effectively in a fast-paced work environment
  • Demonstrated ability to be proactive and achieve results
  • Familiarity with a cGMP environment is a plus
  • Experience using MS applications (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Project)
Responsibilities
  • Responsible for negotiating, executing, and managing high value, risk for raw or semi-finished materials, indirect and direct goods, Critical Raw Materials in support of the Company's cGMP manufacturing activities and facilities engaged in oligonucleotide development
  • Responsibilities include performing cost price analysis and coordinating and resolving issues affecting deliveries, quality, pricing, discounts
  • Work directly with appropriate teams to help develop accurate Bills of Materials. Negotiate with key suppliers for highly competitive services, pricing, and process improvements
  • Review product requirements and develop specifications for new contract orders, maintaining a working technical knowledge of the goods to be purchased
  • Participate in risk assessments, process improvement initiatives and financial analysis
  • Prepare purchase orders, solicit bid proposals, supply agreements and review requisitions
  • Identify and acquire high quality merchandise (Amidites, Reagents, Solvents and Solid Supports) at the optimal price and in correct amounts, applying knowledge of supplier sourcing strategies
  • Research and evaluate suppliers based on price, quality, selection, service, support, availability, reliability, production and distribution capabilities, and the supplier's reputation and history
  • Review proposals, analyze trends, and identify potential sources of supply in support of procurement risk mitigation. Interview target vendors and visit suppliers' plants and distribution centers to examine products, services, and prices
  • Negotiate and administer contracts with key suppliers and suppliers for competitive pricing, services, and improvements to ensure continuity of materials supply
  • Maintain and track purchasing activities including delivery status and pricing and arrange the payment of duty and freight charges to ensure minimal disruption to company drug development and manufacturing activities
  • Maintain and review master data in ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) such as; costs, deliveries, product performance, and inventories
  • Monitor the cost, schedule and scope of subcontracts, review Supplier Open Order Reports weekly, monitor open POs with key suppliers, and run shortages report (Expedite, cancel, or push out as required, consolidate POs) based on production schedules
  • Confer with staff, users, and vendors to discuss defective or unacceptable goods or services and determine corrective action, manage the Raw Material Failure process including Block inventory and the Supplier Complaint process, and work with internal customers on timely disposition of non-conforming materials to mitigate production impact
  • Monitor changes affecting supply and demand, track market conditions, price trends, and future markets, and monitor applicable laws and regulations
  • Work closely with the Planning Department to provide forecasts to our key suppliers
  • Supports and monitors Supplier Change Notifications for assigned commodities and provide impact assessments as required
  • Performs Quality Systems for assigned commodities such as: Supplier Corrective Action Request, Deviations, Change Controls and Corrective Action Preventative Action (CAPA) as required
Key Skills:
  • Sound understanding of Supplier Management, Inventory Management, Supply Chain and Procurement
  • Understanding of the biopharmaceutical industry and familiarity with a cGMP environment is a plus
  • Strong Written and Communication skills can effectively interact with internal and external teams at all levels
