Howard University Hospital is the nation’s only teaching hospital located on the campus of a Historically Black University and has created a superior learning environment, with groundbreaking research and positive patient outcomes.Howard University Hospital seeks to hire a Materials and Distribution Manager in the Materials Management department, who will embrace our rich and historic tradition of excellence.Full-time: Monday- Friday 8AM-4:30PM (weekends as needed)Pay Range:$40.71-65.14/hr (Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility)As a Materials and Distribution Manager, you will:Be responsible for the effective and efficient operation of the materials distribution systems. Manage issues for determination and resolution. Assists with organizational/departmental planning as- it relates to the materials management system and process flow. Develops, educates staff and implements all procedures related to the organizational use of the materials management system. Maintains inventory locations in the Materials Management Information System (MMIS) stock status and coordinates with purchasing on storeroom replenishment issues. Manage the staffs daily schedule, and operational changes. Serves as point of contact for department issues and represents Materials Management on various hospital teams and committees. Plans, manages, and maintains department budget. Completes annual reviews for staff and provide disciplinary action when necessary. Other duties as assigned to support Materials Management operations.Responsibilities include:
  • Manages the effective and efficient operation of the materials management inventory system.
  • Responsible for the maintenance and accuracy of inventory.
  • Ability to work independently and make critical decisions based off reports and data that come from the automated inventory management systems that will lead to superior outcomes.
  • Reviews daily reports and statistical data for correctness and quality assurance, identifying issues and corrective action for process improvements.
  • Performs daily assessment of inventory to ensure safe and economic on-hand and/or on-order values. Remains current on new and obsolete inventory.
  • Investigates and solves complex and unique problems as they occur to maintain the proper functionality of processes as specified in department business practices, as well as problems that relate to inventory management.
  • Maintains an ongoing knowledge associated with operational and technical aspects of the purchasing and supply system.
  • Manages department policies and procedures and recommend changes.
  • Supervises all activities of the department: receiving, stockroom, and distribution of inventory.
  • Fills in for the Receiving Clerks, and Materials Service Specialists as needed and performs cycle counts as needed.
  • Attends many hospital meetings and represents the department on hospital committees. Support Product recalls follow up actions.

Minimum Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, Business, or related field.
  • Three to Five years of inventory management and purchasing experience.
  • Three or more year’s supervisory experience.
