GENERAL SUMMARY:Under the direction of the Administrative Manager, the Medical Assistant II is responsible for assisting the physician/advanced practitioners with evaluation, management, and treatment of patients during office visits and other tasks related to the visit consistent with their training and skills. The primary role is to assure efficient patient flow through the office; to maintain clean, organized and safe patient care areas, and to promote patient satisfaction by interacting with patients/families in a professional, friendly manner consistent with their needs.PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Clinical Responsibilities (50%):
  • Review the daily schedule of patients and facilitate efficient patient clinic flow via daily huddle with other MAs.
  • Utilize two appropriate patient identification methods for each patient in compliance with regulations.
  • Take the patient's weight, appropriate vital signs, and appropriately prepare the patient for the physician/advanced practice provider evaluation.
  • Perform ancillary services including suture/staple removal, dressing changes, removal and application of braces/splints removal, MRSA/MSSA swabbing, and phlebotomy as directed by the physician/advanced practice provider.
  • Process authorized requests for prescription refills under the guidance of the provider.
  • Evaluate and coordinate telephone calls from patients for advice or questions.
  • Assist the physician/advanced practice provider in reporting test results to patients including follow-up.
  • Assist the physician/advanced practice provider in coordinating all appropriate care in other settings such as visiting nurse visits, home agencies, hospice, home IV infusions, etc.
  • Ensure appropriate stocking of all examination rooms with supplies, requisitions and all materials necessary for efficient patient care.
  • Coordinate practice activities with physician/advanced practice provider to insure appropriate level and quality of services including maintaining supplies of medications, vaccines, and equipment.
  • Participate in all quality assurance activities of the practice with respect to patient care.
  • Maintain a clean, uncluttered atmosphere for patient care. Disinfect and prepare clinic rooms before and after each patient visit and conduct clinic in a hygienic manner in keeping with infection control guidelines. Assist providers with appropriate PPE for patients in clinic with active infection.
  • Prepare patient Records/ Charts and retrieve imaging in a proactive way so that all imaging and records on available prior to the start of each clinic day.
  • Scan appropriate documents into medical record, upload outside imaging into medical record.
  • Orient, train and mentor all newly hired Medical Assistants. This will include serving as a clinical resource and working with the new employee to set developmental goals.
  • Responsible for managing the Epic referral work queue. Management will include prioritizing patient lists; telephoning and interviewing patients to determine clinical needs; triaging referrals to ensure right provider at the right time; identification of trends with patient referral; and collaborating with administrative manager to identify hospital-wide communication needs to optimize internal referrals.
  • Responsible for managing the new patient email box and phone line triaging patients based on clinical needs.
  • Other duties as assigned including but not limited to COVID screening prior to visit; assisting patients to enroll in Patient Gateway; assisting patients to complete PROMs.
Research Responsibilities (50%):
  • Work with physicians, clinical nurses, and staff to identify and recruit eligible patients for clinical studies
  • Design research protocols in conjunction with the PIs, providing critical input as to feasibility of study design and available resources
  • Organize, establish, and maintain research databases and uses these databases to extract information for reports, papers, and general feedback to the study team.
  • Collects, compiles, tabulates and analyzes research data
  • Assist the PI with writing manuscripts. Through this process, the incumbent will be highly involved with the editing of these manuscripts.
  • Responsible for quality control, and works with both internal and external colleagues to ensure rigorous adherence to internal and external quality standards
QualificationsClinical Skills Requirements
  • Patient vital sign assessment
  • Ability to use scale and measure patient height & weight
  • Ability to remove sutures/staples
  • Ability to perform phlebotomy preferred
  • Basic wound care knowledge
  • Knowledge of durable medical equipment preferred
Technical Skills Requirements
  • Keeping current and knowledgeable with all Partner’s applications in use by the hiring practice which may include the following programs:

  • Radiology Entry Order

  • Staying up to date with all application training and requirements as indicated by your Administrative Manager
