We want your knowledge and expertise!Job Summary and QualificationsInpatient Rehab/Acute CareThe Speech Therapist provides high-quality, patient-centered care by developing and conducting individualized therapy programs for patients with communication, cognitive, and/or swallowing impairments. As a member of the health care team, the Speech Therapist performs comprehensive patient assessments and establishes appropriate treatment goals. The Speech Therapist serves as an educator to patients, families, students and colleagues.Medical City Plano is looking for a PRN experienced speech-language pathologist to join our team. We are looking to cover a maternity leave scheduled to begin in mid-June for a primarily inpatient rehab-based SLP, and we would love to have someone begin as soon as possible to cover on an as-needed basis, with significant flexibility of scheduling possible based upon how much or how little the therapist would like to work. Each of our therapists works two weekend days per four-week period, with flex days off during the week.Medical City Plano is a 603-bed Level 1 Trauma Center, Comprehensive Stroke Center, Comprehensive Community Cancer Center, has a Level IV NICU, and is home to Collin County’s first and only Burn and Reconstructive Center. Our inpatient rehabilitation unit has 39 beds and two dedicated PM&R physicians, three full-time SLPs dedicated to inpatient rehab, PTs, OTs, and a Recreation Therapist, and is connected to our acute care hospital, with full access to all medical specialties and services.We are looking for a therapist with their Certificate of Clinical Competence, at least one year of adult acute, inpatient, and/or LTAC experience, with MBSS, tracheostomy, FEES, and head & neck cancer experience preferred. This position is primarily for adult inpatient rehab, with the potential of acute care, outpatient, and/or Neonatal ICU coverage for experienced candidates.What you will do in this role:
  • You will conduct a subjective assessment of assigned patient’s speech language abilities during spontaneous conversation. You will administer objective tests to assess patient’s communication assets and liabilities.
  • You will structure and implement individualized patient program to improve communication abilities.
  • You will evaluate patient regularly during treatment and adjust program as needed to maximize patient progress.
  • You will document progress in patient’s chart. You will complete notes, charges, discharge notes and patient communication.
  • You will consult with Program Director and Rehab Physician/Medical Director regarding pre-screen assessments and physician consultations to determine appropriate placement of potential patients.
