Project requirements will include detailed engineering and support of power generation projects (generally 480V to 35kV) from conceptual design through construction support, and project close-out.Your Key ResponsibilitiesRoutinely serve and interact with clients.Be a liaison with clients and contractors, coordinating with various disciplines and permitting agencies and assisting the Stantec project manager (PM).General understanding of design standards and codes common to generation and industrial facilities.Assist in the preparation of specifications, calculations, drawings and scope documents for construction tenders and contracts.Requisite knowledge, interpretation, and application of National Electrical Code (NEC) and applicable energy and electrical codes.Ability to provide detailed power system designs for generation plants including but not limited to Photovoltaic (PV or solar), Combustion (engine) generators, BESS, associated control systems, etc. of systems of voltages ranging from 24Vdc to 35kVac.Apply knowledge of one-line drawings, elementaries and wiring diagrams, equipment specifications (including transformers, MCC, switchgear, substation equipment); power plans, conduit plans, cable schedules, system studies and protective relay settings.Serve as part-time resident engineer (RE) on an as needed basis and provide oversight to other resident-engineers (RE’s) on active construction projects.Attend and/or lead project coordination meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants, owner and contractors, subcontractors and vendors.Working knowledge of technologies for development of three-dimensional models of electrical systems and provides markups for junior engineers.Participate in client project requirement meetings, both in the office or at the client site.Working knowledge of preparation and coordination of the project specifications with construction documents.Assists on multiple projects.Clear understanding of how to successfully deliver projects on-time and on-budget, while maintaining high standards of quality.Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills; excellent English communication skills, both verbal and written. This position will require frequent client interaction and associated documentation.Working knowledge of all phases of project document production and the relationship between drawings and specifications.Your Capabilities and CredentialsA self-starter, able to resolve engineering design issues and develop project scope documents, technical reports, cost estimates and project proposals.Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) certification also known as the Engineer-in-training (EIT) is required, in any state in the US.General understanding of electrical engineering concepts and ability to communicate ideas to others. The ability to interface with other disciplines such as Mechanical, Civil, Structural and Environmental colleagues to ensure project exactness.Working knowledge of ETAP and/or SKM modeling software, including utility modeling conducting load flow analysis, arc fault and coordination studies is a plus.Knowledge of grounding Software such as CDEGS or ELEK SafeGrid is a plus.Knowledge of lighting software such as AGi32, Visual, or Luxicon is a plus.Understanding of PM systems (engineering, quality, construction, HSE, etc.) and willingness to develop skills further, and knowledge of how to comply with PM’s scope and budget.Strong communication skills including the ability to develop thorough and concise explanations of difficult engineering solutions to clients and internal team membersKnowledge of technical writing abilities, writing technical reports and writing technical specifications (in such format as CSI and/or Masterspec®).Travel and interface with clients about projects in both the public and private sectors. Stantec will reimburse business-related travel expenses in accordance with the company policy.Familiar with industry standards regarding transmission lines including IEEE, ANSI, NFPA, NEC and any the ability to review codes from any other governing agency in the United States.Ability to provide detailed power system designs for generation plants (PV, Combustion, BESS, etc.) with system voltage ranging from 24Vdc to 35kVac.Requisite knowledge, interpretation, and application of the National Electrical Code and applicable energy codes.Working knowledge of all phases of project document production and the relationship between drawings and specifications.Ability to support one or multiple projects through all phases of project document production.Checks work for accuracy and completeness while meeting project budget and schedule.Participates in project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thought.Strong presentation and interview skills.Education and ExperienceBachelor’s degree in engineering from an ABET accredited college or university is required.Engineer-in-training (EIT) / Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) certification is required.1-3 years of experience in the design of low voltage (1-3 years of experience with either Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), Data Acquisition System (DAS), Instrumentation and Control (I&C), Building Management System (BMS), or other plant control systems and associated Human-Machine Interface (HMI) is desirable.The ability to obtain a Professional Engineer (PE) license within 3 years.AutoCAD experience is a requirement.Revit, Navisworks or 3-D CAD experience is desirable.Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft, such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Teams.Experience working with Federal clients and private developers is desirable.High voltage overhead and/or underground design experience is desirable.Experience working with electrical power systems in public sectors is desirable.Experience with BIM, Revit or other Autodesk 3D design products or Bentley is desirable.This description is not a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that may be required of the employee and other duties, responsibilities and activities may be assigned or may be changed at any time with or without notice.Stantec is a place where the best and brightest come to build on each other’s talents, contribute to exciting work, and make an impact on the world around us in a measurable way.
