- Perform detailed finite element modeling, coupled loads analysis, and evaluate results
- Perform analyses using commercial and in-house codes as well as write new simulation scripts
- Perform modal analysis on component Finite Element Analysis models in preparation for modal tests
- Identify critical modes for a component or system - Review and process modal and structural data (analytical and test)
- Develop and/or review test plans and procedures, documenting test results
- Ensure employees in functional areas follow established procedures and generate finished work products within time and budgetary constraints and ensure products yield the expected outcome and establish equality levels. Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals
- Ensure NASA customer has adequate technical support personnel to accomplish associated tasks by assisting the Section Manager in assigning existing resources and attaining new resources by reviewing resumes and participating in interviews
- Conduct meetings with NASA customer to provide status and obtain feedback
- Participate in employee evaluations
- Perform routine project status reviews for cost, schedule, risk management, and deliverable adherence
- Conduct oversight, mentorship and guidance to employees and task leads - Establish and update personnel training plans as required
- Work with leads to track and maintain efficient task performance
- Work with colleagues to coordinate issue resolution across multiple JETS organizations which could include source limitations, technical challenges, process breakdowns, etc.
- Perform other duties as required
- Typically requires a minimum of a bachelor's degree in engineering and normally possess 5 - 10 years of related experience. License and certification may be required
- Minimum 5 years performing tasks associated with spacecraft and human spaceflight
- Excellent oral, written, and organizational skills with the ability to work in a team environment
- Experience planning and establishing work priorities
- Experience leading a team of engineers
- Experience with customer and stakeholder interactions
- Experience in the load and dynamics discipline including coupled loads analysis, shock, vibro-acoustics, signal processing, testing, and/or multi-body dynamics
- Experience with Python, MATLAB, and/or C/C+
- BS or MS degree in Mechanical or Aerospace engineering and a minimum of eight (8) years of direct engineering experience in the field of loads and dynamics with a strong understanding of the skills required to perform these tasks
- Familiarity with NASA standards and processes for loads and dynamics, including modal and vibro-acoustic testing
- Proficiency in Coupled Loads Analysis (CLA) and an understanding of the workflow to perform a CLA
- Experience using NASTRAN with FEMAP as a pre/post-processor
- Experience with Component Mode Synthesis and Craig Bampton model reductions
- Experience performing multi-body and dynamic contact analysis (e.g., LS-DYNA or Adams)
- Experience in vibro-acoustic analysis
- Experience customizing analysis processes through scripting and software development
- Familiarity with version control methods using GitLab or GitHub
- Proficiency in Python
- Proficiency in MATLAB, or C/C++
