- Opens and inspects all specimens to assure an accurate specimen count.
- Verifies requisitions and specimen containers for completeness of patient and client information. Verifies a copy of the Advanced Beneficiary Notice (ABN) is with the appropriate patient requisition.
- Follows proper procedures with specimen rejection, if the submitted information is incorrect.
- Produces and correctly affixes labels to specimen containers and requisitions.
- Scans accessioned and grossed specimen requisitions accurately and timely.
- Operates and maintains laboratory equipment and tracks all routine maintenance performed.
- Accurately operates the laser slide etcher and organizes the etched slides for Microtomy.
- Stains, coverslips and distributes slides to appropriate departments for further processing.
- Prints, sorts and packages patient reports for delivery.
- Files and retrieves blocks and slides in accordance with State and Federal guidelines.
- Capable of identifying problems that may affect test performance or reporting of test results and resolve or immediately report to Laboratory Manager or Managing Director.
- Ensures that all daily tasks are completed, scheduling or performing overtime, as needed.
- Monitors laboratory supplies stock and notifies the person in charge of ordering when supplies are needed.
- Approves and Schedules all Scheduled days off in accordance with laboratory procedures.
- Maintains quality staffing by interviewing, hiring, training and providing staff development through performance evaluation and corrective counseling
- Conducts annual performance appraisal of lab assistant/associate personnel
- Maintains and records all time in Kronos.
- Operates, cleans, and sterilizes laboratory equipment, glassware, and instruments (including processors, solvent recyclers, stainers, etc.). Maintains a clean workstation.
- Maintains confidentiality of sensitive information concerning patients, physicians, employees, clients, vendors, and the Company.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
- Complies with all State, Federal, professional regulations as well as department rules, polices, and procedural manuals.
- Adherence to Safety Regulations.
- Adherence to HIPAA Regulations.
- Protective equipment for handling laboratory specimens
- Requires full range of body motion including manual finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
- Frequent sitting, standing, and walking for extended periods of time.
- May require lifting and carrying items up to 25 pounds
- Laboratory Information System
- Knowledge and understanding of laboratory techniques to perform routine laboratory tests.
- Knowledge and skill of laboratory equipment and testing to operate, clean, and sterilize instruments.
- Knowledge of medical terminology
Associates Degree
