- Operational Management: Oversee daily landfill operations, including waste disposal, compaction, cover application, and site maintenance, ensuring all activities are conducted safely and efficiently.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal environmental regulations, including air quality, water quality, and waste handling requirements.
- Staff Supervision: Lead and manage a team of landfill operators and support staff, providing training, guidance, and performance evaluations to ensure high standards of work.
- Budget Management: Develop and manage the landfill’s operating budget, monitoring expenses and identifying opportunities for cost savings.
- Equipment Maintenance: Oversee the maintenance and repair of landfill equipment, coordinating with the maintenance team to ensure all machinery is in good working order.
- Environmental Monitoring: Implement and oversee environmental monitoring programs, including groundwater sampling, gas collection, and leachate management, to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Safety Management: Promote a strong safety culture by enforcing safety protocols, conducting regular safety meetings, and ensuring all staff are trained in safe work practices.
- Reporting: Prepare and submit regular reports on landfill operations, environmental compliance, and financial performance to senior management.
- Community Relations: Act as a liaison with the local community, addressing any concerns or issues related to landfill operations and participating in community outreach initiatives.
- Continuous Improvement: Identify and implement best practices and process improvements to enhance landfill operations and environmental performance.
- Experience: Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in landfill operations or waste management, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Civil Engineering, or a related field is preferred; relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
