As the General Manager, you will be directly managing the Territory Sales Manager, Inside Sales Manager, Engineering Manager, Maintenance Manager, Shipping & Receiving Manager, and Operations Manager for a major steel manufacturer in the Chicagoland area and report directly into the President.
  • Develop and implement strategic plans to drive business growth and achieve long-term objectives.
  • Oversee all aspects of production, including scheduling, procurement, manufacturing processes, and quality control.
  • Manage budgets, analyze financial performance, and identify opportunities for cost savings and revenue generation.
  • Provide leadership and direction to a diverse team of employees, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and accountability.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations, quality standards, and industry best practices.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, understanding their needs and preferences to deliver exceptional products and service.
  • Optimize supply chain operations to minimize lead times, reduce costs, and improve overall efficiency.
  • Identify opportunities for process optimization, productivity enhancement, and waste reduction, driving continuous improvement initiatives across the organization.
  • Assess and mitigate operational risks, implementing appropriate controls and contingency plans to safeguard business operations.
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders, including senior management, employees, customers, and suppliers, to ensure alignment and transparency.

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Engineering, or related field (Master's degree preferred).
  • Proven results driving sales strategies with a particular focus on market segmentation throughout.
  • Proven experience in a senior leadership role within the metal or industrial manufacturing industry, with a track record of driving business growth and operational excellence.
  • Strong understanding of steel production processes, quality assurance principles, and regulatory requirements.
  • Excellent leadership and management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate teams to achieve goals and objectives.
  • Strategic thinker with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Results-oriented mindset with a focus on continuous improvement and innovation.
  • Proven ability to manage budgets, analyze financial data, and make data-driven decisions.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems.
My client is a leading structural steel manufacturer mostly selling to the construction industry. The role is with this plant in the Calumet City area where you will potentially be overseeing all operations for this particular plant. My client holds 5 plants over the same domain across the midwest. This level of leadership is being spawned out of a need for the President of the company to consolidate direct reports amongst the plants.
  • Competitive base salary between $180,000 and $200,000, depending on experience and skills
  • 20% Target Bonus, based on profitability and site metrics
  • OTE circa $250,000
