Description of WorkThe Director, Global Experiences Office (GEO) reports directly to the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Global Affairs and is responsible for the administrative and programmatic oversight of all global experiential learning opportunities sponsored by the University, including study abroad opportunities. In line with the University's 'Forward Together' campus global strategy, and as a member of the Global Affairs leadership team, the Director will lead institutional efforts to expand global experiences for UNL students and will oversee a team of 7-8 education abroad professionals.The Director will be required to build strategic relationships with faculty and staff within UNL units for collaboration on global experiential learning programming (including study abroad), to align goals, create efficiencies, and build strong programs. The Director will be required to establish and maintain positive relationships, fostering trust, respect, and confidence between education abroad and internal and external constituents. The Director will be expected to cultivate and expand faculty engagement in global experiential learning by providing a supportive academic and administrative environment.This role will take the lead on creating and implementing all global experiences and education abroad policies and practices for the University in collaboration with university academic leadership, and in line with current 'best practice' research in the field of international education. The Director manages all contracts, negotiations, and relationships with institutions, program affiliates, and on-site organizations. In consultation with the Director of Global Safety & Security, will also calculate and mitigate fiscal risk related to program location, student enrollments, political environments. The Director also develops and oversees management of the Global Experiences Office budget and is responsible for developing and implementing strategic plans for financial sustainability. This includes overseeing program enrollment strategies to ensure long-term program viability, as well as directing efforts toward impactful and successful marketing and outreach, recruitment, application processes, orientations, and assessment efforts. Minimum Required Qualifications
  • Master's degree in a relevant field and a minimum of six (6) years of progressively responsible leadership experience in the area of education abroad within an institution of higher-education.
  • Minimum of four (4) years of direct supervisory experience required.
  • Strong administrative management skills including strategic planning, budgeting and staff management.
  • Excellent interpersonal, and intercultural communication skills with a strong attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated superior public speaking and writing abilities with the ability to make effective presentations, generate appropriate reports and executive summaries incorporating complex, highly technical information in timely manner.
  • Demonstrated computer competency and knowledge of business information systems such as ViaTRM, Terra Dotta and student information systems.
  • Ability and knowledge in identifying, understanding and mitigating cultural risks.
  • Proven ability to foster positive, collaborative working relationships with individuals at all levels of the organization.
  • Knowledge of best practices in education abroad programming, including support services for students and faculty, marketing education abroad and program assessment.
  • Experience with program development and/or assessment/evaluation that aligns with institutional goals and evolving needs of the student community.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of the grant writing process.
  • Proficiency in a foreign language other than English.
