RecruiterJenny RidingsJob DescriptionThe BAE Systems Jacksonville Ship Repair is seeking an experienced Weld Engineer to create and lead a weld qualification and training program. This will include curriculum development with interaction from key weld team members, testing to DoD requirements, set-up of tooling and test materials for mock-up materials, and evaluation of welders among other responsibilities. The Weld Engineer will report directly to the Fabrication Program Manager. Our Jacksonville site has heavy welding requirements for various programs for Department of Defense (DoD) contracts and is in need of a Weld Engineer who is capable of understanding MIL-STD and AWS welding requirements and industry welding best practices, and leveraging that knowledge to:
  • Develop a training curriculum and implement it with our work force of welders
  • Recommend technical solutions to challenges encountered during welding work
  • Oversee the detailed administration of weld qualification/certification programs in accordance with MIL-STD 248
  • Collaborate with industry welding technologies experts on behalf of the company
The Weld Engineer:
  • Provides engineering support for welding operations in manufacture of structural components and products.
  • Develops concepts, designs, performance, and fabrication, test and modifications for these products.
  • Recommends weld equipment.
  • Prepares and conducts weld engineering analysis of materials and procedures, engaged in weld procedure and performance qualifications.
  • Utilizes knowledge of metallurgy, material weldability, welding robotics, and associated programming.
  • Develops or contributes to the creation of welding procedures, standards and specifications.
  • Responsible for the maintenance of existing qualified welding procedures, and the qualification of new welding procedures which are approved by government technical authorities.
  • Develops special weld repairs as necessary.

  • Bachelor's degree in Weld Engineering, Weld Engineering Technology, or Metallurgy plus 4 years relevant experience.
  • Previous experience training weld employees.
  • Expert knowledge of concepts, practices and procedures of Weld Engineering.
  • Capable of working with current computer applications, CAD programs, and model manipulation.
  • Understanding of equipment and technologies relevant to welding, weld engineering, and weld certification testing.
  • Ability to solve complex technical problems that require a professional level of weld engineering knowledge.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with customers and solve moderately complex technical design and development problems that require a professional level of engineering knowledge.

  • Familiarity with relevant military and commercial weld standards and design standards.
  • Certification with AWS as a Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) or other relevant certification is highly valued.
  • Moderate knowledge of nondestructive testing scope and capabilities.
  • Experience with GMAW, steel and other metals, and NDT inspection a plus.
