The After School Assistant delivers afterschool programming at J.R. Tucker High School providing immigrant youth with tools to successfully thrive in their new school and community. They report to the Youth Programs Supervisor and work with colleagues on the Youth Team to coordinate once-a-week service delivery.Major Responsibilities:Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Assist with intake process, referrals and recruitment and retention for participation in the afterschool program.
  • Implement IRC signature programming as well as other research based SEL resources in response to student needs in the program.
  • Match participants with volunteer tutors, assist students and supervise effective homework help sessions.
  • Attend monthly field trips, assist with communication to families.
  • Oversee dismissal, accompany site coordinator on van drop-offs as needed to maintain safeguarding policies.
  • Support student success by encouraging participation in school and extracurricular activities, finding resources as needed and connecting families.
  • Assist in hosting two family events to encourage family engagement at the school.
  • Conduct accurate program tracking and case notes to ensure program compliance with its goals through required reporting to funders and internal stakeholders.
  • Attend Youth Education Team meetings and complete administrative duties, including but not
limited to reporting, timesheets, and expense reports. Comply with all policies, procedures, and protocols of the agency, placing importance on client confidentiality.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
  • Minimum 1-year relevant work experience with youth, preferably underserved and/or immigrant population.
  • Cultural sensitivity; prefer demonstrated success working and communicating effectively in a multi-cultural environment.
  • Proven ability to contribute both independently and as a key team member.
  • Self-starter with excellent problem-solving skills combined with the proven ability to multi-task, prioritize duties, and manage time effectively.
  • Basic computer skills and fluent in English, both written and spoken; bilingual ability in the language spoken by the local population is a plus.
  • Valid driver's license, access to a reliable vehicle with current insurance.
Working Environment:
  • A combination of on campus delivery and 'field' time within the service delivery area to perform the above outlined responsibilities.
  • Requires evening work.
