
Co-op Student, Mechanical Engineering

- This is a temporary, full-time, hourly paid position open to current students who will be returning to their studies once this work term is complete. This position is not available for remote work.
- Work will be both indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions. Outside the office, standard work wear will consist of hard hats, safety boots, safety glasses and ear plugs, with other items as needed; these items will be provided
- Location: Aurora, North Carolina
- Term (6 months): Dates can be adjusted/extended to coincide with school terms.
- Fall 2025 - June 2 to December 19
- Preparation of engineering scope of work and cost estimates in response to engineering requests and administration submitted by other departments. The engineering report may include technical and economic evaluations; system and component specifications; engineering sketches and drawings; project schedules and cost estimates; and safety and environmental impacts and recommendations.
- Project administration responsibility associated with capital projects, including: specifications, prepare purchase requisitions, process hazard reviews, operational and maintainability reviews and bid analysis, act as resident project engineer, direct contract engineering services, cost controlling and reporting, project schedules and status reports.
- Assist the site with various duties, including:
- Project work
- Advancing process related projects
- Troubleshoot process problems
- Inspecting chemical processing equipment
- Must be currently enrolled and have completed at least 1 year of an undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent related program at an accredited post-secondary institution AND returning to full-time studies after the work term.
- Demonstrate positive safety behavior and leadership
- Willingness to learn and gain knowledge and experience through training
- Strong interpersonal teamwork and communication skills
- Motivation to set and achieve goals, take initiative, and nurture project forward
- Ability to multi-task and adapt to changing priorities
- Must be legally authorized to work in the US without sponsorship
- Must be able to work at heights, outdoors, and around potentially hazardous chemicals
- Must be comfortable and physically capable of entering and working in a confined space
- Must be able to hear and understand audible alarms, changes in noise levels of rotating equipment and portable radio communications
- Must be familiar with Microsoft's Office Suite
