Essential Job DutiesWellness and Recreation is seeking enthusiastic students to ensure the safety of users and participants by preventing and responding to emergencies in the Aquatic Center.Wellness and Recreation commits to foster a learning environment for our student employees that cultivate the skills of ethical reasoning, critical thinking, teamwork, initiative and professionalism. Programs and facilities are student run with professional coaching. The goal is to help develop student's transferable skills and create a supportive and challenging environment for them to succeed in and out of the classroom.Responsibilities
  • Ensure the safety of patrons through patron surveillance
  • Perform preventative maintenance through cleaning tasks
  • Inspect the facility and report any unsafe conditions or equipment
  • Complete records and reports
  • Assist with opening and closing checklists
  • Maintain fitness level (swimming skills, strength and endurance)
Lifeguards working over the summer - May 4 - August 16, 2024 will make $15/hour

Other Work/Responsibilities
  • Understand and enforce Wellness and Recreation and area specific policies and guidelines
  • Knowledge and implementation of emergency action plan
  • Attend required trainings and meetings
  • Develop professional relationships with co-workers, participants, and guests
  • Uphold and exceed the expectations of Wellness and Recreation: ethical reasoning, critical thinking, teamwork, initiative and professionalism
  • Assist as needed in all required departmental functions
  • Maintain an up-to-date American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification

Required License or Certification
  • Current NC State degree-seeking student (enrolled in a minimum of 9 credits for undergraduate or 4.5 for graduate students)
  • Current or ability to obtain American Red Cross Lifeguarding and First Aid certification before position commencement
  • Pre-Employment Testing of lifeguarding knowledge and skills
  • Demonstrate proficiency in all of the American Red Cross Lifeguard prerequisite skills
  • Prerequisites: swim 300 yards continuously, tread water for 2 minutes and complete a timed event within 1 minute and 40 seconds
  • Individuals with a current American Red Cross Lifeguard certification are subject to a skill scenario
