This reputation is a result of superior quality of our products and our people.Controls EngineerThe Controls Engineer is responsible for supporting and upgrading the existing electrical control systems including both hardware and software. Expected to assist and lead process control improvement strategies. Communicate and coordinate activities with plant technical personnel, which includes actual systems and engineering & maintenance department philosophies to help support the production department efficiently.He or she will support the reliability program to minimize downtime risks due to electrical control systems by investigating alternative equipment component suppliers/manufacturers to improve reliability and reduce costs and investigating control system performance through operating performance and failure data reviewing electrical control PM’s and modifying as necessary.Responsibilities:
Analyze, recommend, engineer, design, estimate, implement, troubleshoot, upgrade, improve and repair various electrical and instrumentation/automation systems all within a team environment.
Analyze, formulate, submit, and execute various Electrical Control Projects including the control of scope, schedule, budget, and quality.
Support process group in troubleshooting production control problems, tuning strategies, and development of solutions.
Maintain technical data and history files of control equipment that is worked on.
Work with vendors and contractors to perform functions/responsibilities.
Ensure all spare parts for instrumentation/automation systems are set up in stores.
Participate in any GQS procedures as applicable to assignments including PM’s and documentation.
Understand and support maintenance focus areas/equipment.
Participate and act proactively in safety (participate in audits and meeting as schedules) and in equipment loss prevention.
Recognize maintenance problem/quality issues and take appropriate action unsupervised.
Assist and train operations and maintenance personnel on the use of automation systems.
Develop understanding of processes and equipment function.
Use analytical troubleshooting discipline driving towards identification of the root cause.
Review and update, as necessary, the maintenance and operations work procedures for instrumentation and automation (including PM’s and Operating Procedures).
Continue development and documentation of the Electrical LOTO System as part of the Energy Control Plan.
Improve control system reliability and performance by analyzing equipment failure data and process operating conditions.
Assist with and lead root cause equipment failure analysis investigations.
Investigate alternative equipment component suppliers/manufacturers to improve reliability, throughput, product quality, and manufacturing costs.
Champion new control technologies and tuning strategies.
Continue the development and maintenance of a comprehensive plant equipment identification program including update of P&IS’s and field labeling.
Continue personal development as the plant technical specialist of film gage control, distributed control, and motor drive systems.
Provide technical leadership to teach, implement, and develop systems for good maintenance and engineering practices.
Develop our Electricians’ instrumentation and automation skill sets.
Plan and execute assigned engineering projects in a timely and efficient manner, maintaining safety requirements, budgetary cost control, project documentation, status communications, and ensuring that the projects accomplish their intended scope and objective.
Follows quality management system requirements for relevant activities.
Performs other related duties as required and assigned.
Requirements:
A Bachelor of Science Degree in Systems / Controls field or equivalent is required. Preferred: Electrical Engineering.
Computer work including use of Excel, Word, Project for Windows, PowerPoint, CMMS/SAP, etc.
Effective communication skills, i.e., written, verbal and electronic.
Understand/utilize predictive maintenance and reliability tools as applicable to instrumentation and automation systems including failure/risk analysis.
Willingness and ability to work overtime as necessary to meet deadlines and repair emergencies.
Experience with Rockwell, Foxboro, Siemens, OSI PI software is a plus.
