- Payment Infrastructure Modernization: Supporting key initiatives such as the E&I ACH+ integration (Zellis and Echo), the transition to a robust provider pay network, and the continuous evolution of the Payment Engine to support consumer demand
- Payment Certainty & Confidence: Understanding the intricacies of consumer and provider payments to ensure certainty and confidence for members while strategically addressing gaps in managed care and navigating potential provider abrasion
- Future Payment Solutions: Defining and enabling the future consumer and provider payment solutions, specifically leveraging and expanding capabilities within the Retail domain, beyond shared wallet functionalities
- Cost Share Transformation: Expanding and deepening critical partnerships with Epic and other Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems to fundamentally transform the collection of member cost share
- Business Model Innovation & Partnership: Collaborating closely with Provider teams, UnitedHealthcare Network (UHN), Clinical divisions, and various lines of business to define and implement business models that create new revenue streams
- Consumer Lending & Risk Management: Possessing a deep understanding of consumer lending principles to establish a roadmap for the assumption of medical and financial risk within the payments space
- Manages a highly specialized team of leaders and individual contributors, responsible for driving the strategy, product development, and operational excellence across key payment initiatives
- Possesses deep knowledge of the financial services and healthcare payments landscape, including current trends, regulatory environment, and competitive forces
- Ensures payment solutions being developed meet strategic objectives for financial performance, operational efficiency, and customer satisfaction
- Works across UnitedHealth Group entities – including Consumer Operations, Provider Relations, Clinical, UHN, LOBs, and Technology – to drive the achievement of seamless, compliant, and efficient payment experiences for both consumers and providers
- Acts as the authoritative leader for all payment-related initiatives, representing the function to senior leadership and external partners
- Advances platform capabilities and initiatives central to driving innovation and efficiency in healthcare payments
- Shepherds the transformation of fragmented payment processes into unified, scalable common capabilities that maximize financial value and reduce administrative burden
- Drives the capital portfolio and ensures optimal allocation to achieve high-impact outcomes in the payments domain
- 15+ years of progressive leadership experience with at least 10+ years specifically in payments, payment operations, or financial services within large, complex organizations
- 5+ years of senior leadership experience overseeing multi-million dollar portfolios and large-scale strategic initiatives
- Demonstrated experience in healthcare payments, claims processing, revenue cycle management, or related financial operations within the healthcare industry
- Deep expertise in various payment methods (e.g., ACH, credit cards, real-time payments) and the underlying technologies and platforms
- Proven track record of driving large-scale digital transformation and platform modernization initiatives within the financial or healthcare sector
- Exceptional financial acumen with demonstrated ability to manage P&L, drive cost efficiencies, and identify new revenue opportunities within the payments space
- Solid understanding of relevant regulatory and compliance frameworks (e.g., HIPAA, PCI-DSS, NACHA rules, state payment regulations)
- Proven ability to build and lead high-performing teams, fostering a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement
- Solid executive presence and exceptional communication skills (written and verbal) with the ability to influence and engage senior leaders, cross-functional stakeholders, and external partners
- Experience with agile methodologies and product management principles in a large enterprise environment
- Ability to navigate ambiguity, solve highly complex problems, and make sound, data-driven decisions under pressure
- Master's degree in Business Administration, Finance, or a related field
- Familiarity with UnitedHealthcare's operational structure, existing payment systems, and key strategic priorities
- Experience with consumer lending or financial product development
- Knowledge of emerging payment technologies such as blockchain, AI in finance, or digital wallets
- Proven experience driving partnerships with large EMR vendors (e.g., Epic) or third-party payment processors
