  • Accomplishing tasks associated with the installation and repair of electronic equipment associated with the generators, transformers, circuit breakers, controls, protective relaying, power line carriers, electronic simulators, phone systems, etc.
  • Makes inspections on a routine and nonroutine basis ascertaining that electronic equipment is functioning properly and establishing needs for repair.
  • Troubleshoots and diagnoses electronic equipment failures for necessary repairs and/or installation of equipment for the correction of outages and improper operation.
  • Assist the Senior Electronic Mechanic with planning and performing maintenance and inspection for establishing reliable and effective means for returning equipment back to service.
  • Makes on the spot modification when necessary, and ensures that such changes are incorporated into a record, drawing, etc.

  • This position is covered by the Civilian Drug Abuse Testing Program. Incumbent is required to sign a DA Form 5019-R "Condition of Employment for Certain Civilian Positions Identified as Critical under the Drug Abuse Testing Program".
  • Position requires a pre-employment physical examination and be enrolled in the medical surveillance program that requires periodic physical examinations.
  • Employee frequently lifts, carries or otherwise handles items weighing up to 50 pounds. Occasionally handles items greater than 50 pounds.
  • Position requires a valid State motor vehicle operator's license prior to appointment and maintain the license for the duration of employment.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.

However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.Minimum Qualifications: The ability to do the work of a(n) Power Plant Electronic Mechanic without more than normal supervision in duties such as:(1) Assist the Senior Electronic Mechanic in maintaining necessary records on such item as work accomplished, quality and progress of in-house and hired labor procured through contracts, spare parts, requisitions of supplies and materials, equipment breakdown, future work for budgeting purposes; and (2) Executes assignments independently, determining sequence of tasks and using accepted practices and methods. Work is spot-checked for adequacy, workmanship, and adherence to schedules for in-house and hired labor.Physical Effort: Employee frequently lifts, carries or otherwise handles items weighing up to 50 pounds. Occasionally handles items greater than 50 pounds. Assistance is usually available with heavy items. Works in sitting, standing, walking, bending, crouching, reaching, and stooping positions, for extended periods if required. Driving passenger vehicles, pickup trucks and a carrier van for short times is also required.Working Conditions: Works is required to be performed both inside and outside and is subject to all extremes of weather. Incumbent is subjected to the danger of falls from ladders, carbon dust, fumes, electric shock, noise, moving machinery, close places in cramped positions, slippery conditions, frequent travel, and other conditions expected from electronic repair of power plant equipment. Incumbent is subject to callback during nonduty hours in cases of equipment failures and/or power outages. Employee is required to observe established safe working procedures. Wearing of hard hats, hard toe footwear, gloves, goggles, face shields, rubber aprons, rainwear, and earplugs is mandatory in the performance of duties; often works alone.EducationSome federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify.
