Overview:The manufacturing engineer provides technical engineering support to Production and Process Engineering for maintaining and improving Contec’s manufacturing processes. Responsibilities:
  • Obtains daily support priorities from Production team shift meetings to ensure production goals are met.
  • Optimize existing manufacturing processes, perform capability studies, and reduce process variation to improve delivered quality, reduce costs, and improve safety. Assists Process Engineer with IQ/OQ/PQ validation process for new manufacturing processes.
  • Participates in or leads PFMEAs to develop process control plans to ensure product meets specifications.
  • Supports Lean initiatives as a participant in kaizen activities.
  • Implements methods for error prevention (Poke Yoke, Autonomation / Jidoka).
  • Provides manufacturing process oversight and ongoing capability.
  • Ensures all existing processes remain safe and environmentally sound to protect associates from injury and minimize related fatigue.
  • Assists all functional areas, Production, Quality, Development, Maintenance, etc. as needed with technical expertise such as mechanical, electrical, control systems, and understanding of material properties (fluids, knitted and/or nonwoven).
  • Provides technical assistance for machine troubleshooting and repair. Act as liaison to equipment manufacturers.
  • Makes design changes to tooling and works with Vendors to provide tooling needs to production work centers.
  • Develops and maintains process settings in Critical Process Parameter Sheets.
  • Uses software for design, communication, and analysis of data: AutoCad, Solidworks, MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, and/or Minitab.
  • Participates and works within ISO 9001 quality standards guidelines in accordance with Contec’s quality goals.

Requirements:Bachelor's degree (B.S.) in Engineering or Material Science from a four-year College or university; and two to ten years related experience. This position requires the person to regularly perform their job in an air-conditioned open office setting from an individual cubicle space where the noise level is moderate. Occasionally, they will be required to work in a manufacturing environment where the noise level is loud and PPE will be required (safety eye protection, steel-toe footwear, and hair covers). While in the manufacturing environment, they will occasionally be exposed to moving mechanical parts, electrical hazards, liquid chemicals, and fumes from the manufacturing process. Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an associate to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The person in this position remains in a stationary position while working 50% of the time and regularly needs to move about to access equipment and files, both in the office and on the production floor. The associate frequently will visit the production floor and utilities spaces to observe equipment and operations. They sometimes must position themselves to observe or investigate equipment from different perspectives and sometimes may ascend/descend a ladder perform this duty. Observation of the equipment requires vision abilities including close vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the associate is frequently required to talk or hear as well as diagnosis equipment issues by the way is sounds. The associate must rarely lift and/or move up to 25 pounds of equipment or supplies.
