Serves as the system-wide resource for patient safety and privacy. Analyzes allegations of claims against the organization, complaints and provides corresponding documentation. Interviews employees, patients, families, and physicians for details of events. Documents chronological summaries of events and researches processes in a clinical/legal perspective. Participates in the legal, claims and risk reduction strategy with the Risk Management team, Quality team and other key stakeholder departments. Employees providing direct patient care must demonstrate competencies specific to the population served.Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience, 5 years’ experience in Nursing, Patient Safety, or Healthcare Administration required or comparable experience in lieu of a bachelor’s degree required.
  • Must have advanced analytical skills
  • Prior experience in conflict management inclusive of de-escalation techniques and training desirable
  • Must have the ability to learn and utilize special database programs
  • Must have or be willing to acquire advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word office products
  • Must have prior HIPAA training and sensitivity in regard to protecting medical information and other sensitive information
  • Must be able to serve on a rotational on-call basis, afterhours, weekends and holidays
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in difficult situations with all ages
  • Advanced conflict management skills are essential
  • Must work well in a team environment
The job produces some physical demands. Typical of jobs that include regular walking, standing, stooping, bending, sitting, and some lifting of light weight objects.
  • Analyze severity-code patient occurrences for trends and opportunities for improvement. Develop reports and present findings at various risk management and performance improvement committees, up to board level. Serve as a corporate resource for patient safety issues/concerns.
  • Conduct root cause analysis based on patient occurrence analysis and JC sentinel event alerts. Analyze and redesign processes to minimize the risk of failure/error to protect patients. Test and implement the re-designed process, measure the effectiveness and implement strategy for maintaining effectiveness of re-designed process over time.
  • Perform pro-active risk assessment for assigned corporate areas/facilities. Analyze and redesign process as to minimize the risk of failure/error to protect patients.   • Develop and present risk management education programs for all levels of staff within the Bronson Corporation, to include physicians and board members. Participate in new hire orientation by presenting environmental safety class, corporate compliance class, clinical risk management class, delegation class and other standing educational opportunities.
  • Perform in-depth investigations and sensitive, detailed interviews of various members of the corporate staff, physicians and administrators upon notification of a sentinel event, unexpected outcome or suspected privacy violation.
  • Experience in understanding both state and federal healthcare regulations and national accreditation standards desirable
  • Able to demonstrate knowledge of standards pertaining to nursing and physician care
  • Provide support for members of the corporate staff, physician and administrative staff involved in a sentinel event or claim investigation or deposition.
  • Intake risk management, facility/environmental and patient safety concerns, from outside and within the corporation and provide research, advice or guidance for resolution/assistance. Intervene and facilitate difficult and high-risk communications as requested by staff, administration, or physicians.
