- Essential Functions
- Assist in the daily management of Big & Little.
- Conduct outreach and attend assigned events.
- Assist with classroom setup at the beginning of the school year and cleanup at the end of the school year in the Learning Center, as needed.
- Supervise, support, and coach Teachers and Assistant Teachers; provide classroom leadership and mentoring.
- Provide a warm, nurturing, safe, and loving environment for children where self-confidence is enhanced, independence is encouraged, and individuality is respected.
- Monitor and maintain compliance with all DCFS licensing standards, where applicable.
- Assist with the recruitment, onboarding, training, coaching, supervision, and performance evaluations of Child Development staff.
- Lead and/or support staff meetings and in-service trainings.
- Develop staff schedules to maintain appropriate DCFS staff-child ratios.
- Oversee the operation of the Learning Center, including all teachers and assistants.
- Plan, organize, and oversee preschool summer camps in cooperation with Preschool Coordinator.
- Assist in maintaining staff files and attendance logs.
- Assist with approving timesheets for Big & Little.
- Register and orient new children and families into the appropriate Child Development program(s).
- Maintain the confidentiality of families, children, and center operations.
- Continuously seek ways to improve and deliver quality services to both internal and external customers.
- Provide accurate information to patrons in person, via telephone, and electronically.
- Respond promptly and diplomatically to parent inquiries, feedback, and concerns.
- Communicate with families regarding child development, classroom behavior, and program updates.
- Maintain records, including but not limited to waitlists, attendance, incoming client files, and staff files.
- Assist with curriculum development, instructional planning, and classroom operations.
- Work as a classroom teacher as needed based on enrollment and/or staffing needs.
- Ensure classrooms are developmentally appropriate, organized, and meet DCFS standards.
- Oversee annual student Progress Reports process for each student.
- Maintain the classroom, equipment, and supplies as directed and report repair or replacement needs in a timely fashion.
- Participate in the preparation, management, and implementation of the annual budget, as directed.
- Train staff regarding district-wide and facility-specific emergency, evacuation, and disaster plans.
- Oversee staff compliance with the DCFS-mandated 15 annual professional development hours and maintain personal compliance with professional development requirements.
- Support current and new staff with the onboarding process to include but not limited to District Policies & Procedures, Email, HR & training software, and the timekeeping system.
- Assist with participant behavioral challenges and conflict resolution opportunities in line with district and program policies.
- Participate in parent meetings, events, and family engagement activities.
- Support teaching staff through classroom observations and feedback.
- Attend and participate in Child Development Center meetings.
- Provide a quality curriculum in the childcare program that takes into consideration the needs of each child and the goals and objectives of the District.
- Work as a childcare teacher when enrollment and staffing levels require. Substitute in the classrooms when needed.
- Assist in planning and coordinating staff development through in-service training, professional conferences, and continuing education. Assist in leading meetings and in-services, as directed.
- Provide tours, respond to program inquiries, and conduct outreach as needed.
- Help train and practice with staff the medical emergency, evacuation, and disaster plan so as to be prepared for any and all emergencies.
- Contribute to the organization, arrangement, safety, and sanitation of the Child Development Center.
- Continuously seek ways to improve and deliver quality services to both external and internal customers.
- Deliver quality customer service both internally and externally.
- Make recommendations for changes and improvements to programs and facilities as required to meet the public demand.
- Create parent and staff newsletters and contribute to communications.
- Conduct periodic inventories of Child Development supplies and materials and communicate identified needs to the Director.
- Set up and organize monthly field trips/entertainers/visitors.
- Assist at special events as requested.
- Assist Learning Center teachers with classroom setup at the beginning of the school year and cleanup at the end of the school year, as needed.
- Maintain Learning Center staff files and attendance logs.
- Approve timesheets for Learning Center staff.
- Assist Learning Center teachers with curriculum development, instructional planning, and classroom operations.
- Assist Learning Center teachers with participant behavioral challenges and conflict resolution opportunities in line with district and program policies.
- Conduct outreach and attend assigned events, including parent night, meet-the-teacher, field trips, and other scheduled Learning Center activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
