- Assists in the repairs and maintenance of all bus systems with guidance.
- Cleans, oils, greases, washes and polishes buses.
- Performs preventive maintenance inspections on buses.
- Dismantles and prepares bus equipment for general repairs.
- Cleans and assembles tools.
- Assists in changing and repairing tires, checking and installing batteries, and painting buses.
- Cleans work shop and garage and arranges storeroom.
- Performs the duties of Bus Utility Worker when needed.
- Makes unassisted trade outs that do not require mechanical repairs.

- Some knowledge of the principles of bus mechanics and of the common practices, materials, tools and equipment of the trade
- Ability to do semi-skilled mechanical repair tasks, and to make routine mechanical installations and adjustments
- Ability to understand and carry out simple written and oral instructions
- Skill in the routine use of the standard tools of the mechanic trade
- Ability to lift, bend, and twist as necessary to remove, repair, or recondition and replace body parts, interior parts, suspension parts, and glass.
- Ability to tolerate exposure to fluids and solvents used in vehicle repair work.
- Ability to perform continuous manual and physical labor while standing on a cement floor.
- Ability to lift and carry bulky objects weighing up to 50 pounds (heavier objects with the assistance of another person).
- Ability to exert up to 100 pounds of pressure using tools that tighten, loosen or cut.
- Ability to work independently on the night shift
- Ability to provide own hand tools and storage cabinet should job assignment require the use of tools on a regular basis
- Ability to read, interpret and apply information contained in technical repair manuals.
- Experience in servicing and assisting in the repair of vehicular equipment, plus mechanical trade courses and a minimum of five years of unrestricted licensed driving experience are required.
- High school diploma or equivalent is preferred. An equivalent combination of experience and training may be considered.
- Must be able to pass a drug, background screening and motor vehicle report
- Must have a valid drivers license with no restrictions
