The ICTS is funded by the NIH under the Clinical and Translational Sciences Award program, one of about 50 currently funded in the US. Our unique environment means that staff, faculty, and students work closely together in order to advance translational science across campus and the medical center. The ICTS functions as a local centerpiece for the national program, and we are dedicated to advancing scientific discovery and medical breakthroughs. Collectively, our goal is simple: to accelerate these discoveries from the lab and translate them into life-altering medical care. The BERD Unit's mission is to achieve this goal through the provision and promotion of exceptional biostatistical collaboration and education.Under the general direction of the Director of the Biostatistics, Epidemiology and Research Design Unit (BERD) at the ICTS, the incumbent will provide biostatistical and epidemiological support for collaborative research, consultation, and education/teaching. This includes project consultations with faculty, staff, and student researchers, support on study design, data analysis, developing novel biostatistical methodologies, data management and coordination, and supporting education/training initiatives, including leading short courses on the practice of biostatistics to diverse audiences. Responsibilities include statistical modeling and programming and providing consultation support for investigators/scientists throughout ICTS and all departments across the UCI campus broadly; running simulations for new and existing mathematical approaches to data analysis (including, but not limited to, survival analysis, generalized linear models, generalized linear mixed models, machine learning methods), arising from laboratory studies, clinical trials, and population-based studies; participating in consultations and discussions with researchers; assisting with the preparation of research papers, abstractsm and presentations; keeping current with methodological developments in biostatistics, epidemiology, and related disciplines; and contributing to grant proposal preparation for extramural funding. The incumbent is responsible for managing multiple collaborative research projects and associated deadlines. Experience with grant proposal and study design: Experience in study design (including but not limited to sample size, power and precision analysis) and writing of the statistical analysis plan for grant application, particularly National Institute of Health grants.Preferred:PhD, preferredStrong programming skills for at least 2 statsitical programs such as SAS, Stata, R, SPSS, MPlus, Prism etc Experienced with preparation of teaching materials and BERD statistics courses. This includes co-leading, leading short/mini courses on applied biostatistics. Experience with clinical trials: Experience in the design/planning, monitoring and statistical analysis of clinical trials, particularly early phased clinical trials.Special Conditions Required:Valid CA drivers license and reliable transportation required for travel to UCIMC and other locations for occasional meetings.
