As a growing and multi-disciplined civil engineering and professional services firm, Collins is a great place to grow your career and advance your passion.Collins has an opening for a Hydraulic Structural Engineer in our St. Paul, MN or Grand Fork, ND office. The primary responsibility of this role is conducting Scour Plan of Actions for bridge structure safety inspections as well as hydrographic surveys. You will be expected to utilize procedures for estimating local scour at bridge piers and abutments and utilize analytical techniques to determine the need for Scour Plan of Actions. This role offers the chance to work with industry leaders while using innovative technology. You will have the independence to solve technical problems and steward solutions through the delivery process. You must have completed the NHI course for Stream Stability and Scour at Highway Bridges. This position requires proficient use of HEC-RAS software. This position is a combination of design and field work with some travel required. This position will provide the opportunity for growth, where continuing development and participation in professional societies will be encouraged and supported.TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.   • Provides technical engineering information to Project Manager to ensure the project complies with all engineering standards, codes, specifications, and design instructions.
  • Reviews, analyzes, and provides recommendations on-field and/or design issues.
  • Independently performs moderately difficult engineering computations involving conventional engineering practices.
  • Prepares complete engineering plans or reports.
  • Uses computer-assisted engineering and design software and equipment to prepare engineering and design documents.
  • Keeps Project Manager informed of workload and any changes in project scope or additional services.
  • Is active in technical societies.
  • Responsible for small to moderately difficult projects from inception to completion
  • Has limited communication with clients.
  • Is available to attend meetings or events outside of normal working hours.
  • Directs and supervises the work of entry-level engineers, technicians, drafters, and administrative staff
  • Actively observes and acts in an appropriate manner related to safety.
*Relocation is availableQualificationsYOU WILL NEED:
  • Bachelor's degree and/or master’s degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited four-year university and a minimum of 4 years’ experience or the equivalent thereof.
  • Experience in the inspection and/or design of, but not limited to, bridges, roadways, railroads, marinas, and/or ports.
  • Successful completion of NHI 135046 Stream Stability and Scour course
  • Proficient in HEC-RAS software
  • Engineer-In-Training (E.I.T.) or Professional Engineer (P.E.) required
  • Professional Land Surveyor ( PLS) a plus
  • Valid driver’s license
