This population is mainly comprised of occupational health clients. The MA may assist the provider and nursing staff in collecting data, vital signs, preparing patients for exams, administering vaccinations (when RN, PA or physician onsite), assisting with procedures, obtaining specimen samples, facilitating the general flow of the clinic and other duties as assigned. Accuracy, attention to detail and completeness of documentation are critical skills due to the regulatory requirements associated with the services provided. The MA will perform according to the defined policies and procedures for designated practice. Patient confidentiality and safety will be maintained as defined by the hospital department and practice procedures and policy manuals.Medical Assistant Certification (CMA), Registration (RMA), or State of Michigan Licensed Practical Nurse licensure (LPN) required within 90 days of hire.Must have the ability to do fractions, percentages, decimals, metric conversions and pass a basic math competency test. Must have the ability to obtain, read and interpret data from equipment and computers and communicate findings amongst coworkers, providers and employers. Must demonstrate excellent customer service skills in interactions with coworkers and customers. Must demonstrate accuracy and completeness in documentation and the performance of tasks. Must have computer skills to facilitate accurate and efficient documentation in electronic health recordWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in a clean, well lighted & temperature controlled environment. The employee is frequently exposed to infectious disease from blood/air borne pathogens. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. At times, the employee may be asked to perform tasks off site in a less controlled environment for light, cleanliness, temperature, etc.While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, and perform fine motor skills. The employee must occasionally perform heavy lifting and positioning of supplies and equipment as needed. The employee must occasionally lift, carry, push and pull objects up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus.The Medical Assistant must be able to work as a team member and be able to effectively communicate in English with patients, visitors, and all members of the care delivery team. The Medical Assistant must be able to effectively handle confrontational situations with customers. The Medical Assistant is directly supervised by and reports to the ProHealth Manager in providing patient care to the designated patient assignment.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.   • Performs basic technical skills in the provision of patient care.
  • Responds/offers assistance to providers, patients and families.
  • Communicates with the providers about patient status, interventions completed, data collected and pertinent input to facilitate care planning.
  • Collects data including weights, vital signs, demographic information, lab specimens.
  • Utilizes clinical equipment in providing care.
  • Utilizes the computer to enter/retrieve patient data as defined by role.
  • Accompanies patients during and assists with office procedures.
  • Orders, stocks and prepares supplies for patient/clinic utilization
  • Provides skilled technical care according to unit-specific and generic structure standards, protocols and procedures, prescribed medical interventions, and nursing guidelines.
  • Maintains a clean and orderly environment.
