- Lead the implementation of Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) Departmental programs and protocols to minimize employee exposure to workplace stressors at the facility level. These programs include but are not limited to: occupational health and safety, industrial hygiene, chemical safety, risk management, environmental permitting and compliance, sustainability, ergonomics, and illness and injury prevention.
- Review and coordinate site compliance management with regulatory standards, insurance requirements and SHE policies and procedures (local and corporate). Provide regular updates of progress on EHS team key performance indicators.
- Develop and deliver SHE training, SHE policies and procedures.
- Ensure all hazards are identified and risks are proactively assessed and appropriately mitigated.
- Oversee incident response and investigation program.
- Serve as an agent of change while effectively ensuring compliance and proliferation of best practices. Provide guidance and build rapport with site personnel to mitigate risks, implement continuous improvements, and follow up on audit action plans, incident investigations, corrective actions, and compliance deficiencies.
- Manage site emergency response plans and procedures; keep updated and ensure appropriate exercises/drills are conducted. Participate on the site emergency response team and act as an emergency response coordinator.
- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry/Biology/Environmental with 6+ years progressive relevant experience in SHE and industry, or a Masters degree and minimum 4 years of relevant experience.
- Experience in the pharmaceutical, biotech, or related industry
- Working knowledge with all relevant OSHA, Cal/OSHA, DOT, and NFPA regulatory requirements
- Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills and strong technical presentation ability.
- Effective communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Demonstrated experience in interacting with regulatory agencies.
- Demonstrated experience in working in collaborative teams.
- Demonstrated experience with working under minimal supervision.
- Experience with safe lab practices and the handling of biological material
