MRI technologists specialize in magnetic resonance imaging scanners. They inject patients with contrast media, such as a dye, so that the images will show up on the scanner. The scanners use magnetic fields in combination with the contrast agent to produce images that a physician can use to diagnose medical problems.Job duties include, but are not limited to:
1. Demonstrates the ability to perform clinical/technical/service/administrative tasks.
2. Performs MRI imaging procedures. Operates and/or prepares specialized equipment to perform magnetic imaging procedures.
3. Assists, prepares and positions patients as required to perform MRI procedures.
4. Applies the necessary technical judgment to obtain studies of an acceptable diagnostic quality according to written protocols and the patients' needs.
5. Provides patient education relevant to specific imaging procedures by informing the patient of the nature of the procedure, the area to be imaged and any specific instructions the patient may need.
6. Reviews patient safety questionnaires and follows MRI safety precautions prior to scanning patients.
7. Ensures patients are cleared before transition from zone 2 - 3.
8. Assists in administering opaque media and or loading power injector under aseptic technique.
9. Positions patients and associated coils to obtain optimum study.
10. Scans patient-related documents.
11. Ensures all images are appropriately labeled as specified by the department SOP.
12. Assists physician directly as required.
13. Evaluates radiographs for technical acceptability and ensures images are transmitted to PACS in a timely fashion.
14. Ensures Radiology room and equipment cleanliness, at the start and at the end of the shift, to include removal of soiled or dirty linen.
15. Maintains supplies and accessories in imaging room necessary to safely perform duties, as required.
16. Accurately records all required patient tracking information into IDX (Radiology Information System).
17. Schedules exams into IDX (Radiology Information System) as required.
18. Ensures that all studies performed are completed in IDX (Radiology Information System) in a timely fashion.
19. Informs supervisor or appropriate personnel of needed repairs to equipment or unsafe conditions.
20. Prevents the spread of infection to self, patients, visitors, and other employees by adhering to infection control policies and protocol.
21. Attends in-services and other professional development meetings as required.
22. Maintains in good standing, licensure specific to job to include adherence to Article 35 of the Public Health Code.Qualifications/Requirements:
ARRT MRI certified, NYS DOH Radiography license to inject, AHA BLS. Proficiency with Client MRI Platform. Preferred but not required: proficiency with Client RIS/UV and Epic Computer programs.
New York State License (L.R.T), American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT and current CT certification)Preferred Qualifications/Requirements:
Minimum Education Graduate of an AMA/J.C.E.R.T. approved program in Radiologic Technology Minimum Licensing
Requirements New York State License (L.R.T.) o NY State IV Certification Minimum Certification
