Job Description SummaryThe purpose of this job is to perform skilled work operating medium and heavy motorized equipment and commercial vehicles.

- Utilizes knowledge and equipment to accomplish given tasks in a safe and efficient manner.
- Operates a wide variety of motorized equipment, including heavy construction equipment, and hand/power tools.
- Installs, operates, repairs, and maintains tools and equipment.
- Loads and hauls materials and supplies; maintains inventory and stocks vehicles.
- Performs skilled labor tasks following established procedures.
- Maintains safe work environment and equipment.
- Adheres to safety standards.
- Documents work performed.
- Provides customer service.
- Assists other departments as needed.
- Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- No supervisory authority. Work does require providing guidance and training to others.
- Work requires regular interaction involving exchange and receipt of information.

- Position has no fiscal responsibility.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 1 to 3 years' experience in construction or operation of heavy equipment
- Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
- Division specific CDL endorsements within 6 months of hire.
- Department of Transportation (DOT) medical certification.
- Standard practices, methods, materials, tools, and equipment of trades.
- Safety standards and precautions pertaining to operations and maintenance of a variety of equipment and tools.
- Columbia geography and streets.
- Operating motorized equipment, including heavy construction equipment, and hand/power tools.
- Communicating verbally and in writing to meet the needs of the audience.
- Applying active listening and asking questions for understanding.
- Read and follow written and oral directions.

Positions assigned to the City Utilities Department are required to maintain a telephone andpermanent residence within 50 road miles of City Hall, 701 E. Starting Salary $22.91/hr to $23.84/hr; Commensurate w/Training & Experience
