
Senior Principal Architect - Ad Tech

- Develop technology patterns and roadmaps for assigned product teams, with a focus on Ad Serving systems
- Design and build a new Ad Server that integrates with UI, database, reporting, and analytics systems
- Work with engineers on the Ad Decisioning team to create an integrated platform that delivers best-in-class Ad performance
- Collaborate with operations engineers to create CI/CD pipelines with automated testing and releases
- Provide operational and technical support, including participation in an on-call rotation
- Anticipate technical issues at the product level and make architectural and design decisions to avoid them
- Demonstrate creativity and initiative in solving complex system-level problems
- Assist in aligning proposed Ad Serving solutions with broader enterprise architecture vision prior to Architecture Review Board approvals
- Mentor engineers and provide guidance on architectural alignment and best practices
- Actively participate in the Architecture Community of Practice (CoP) and Best Buy's modernization strategy
- Provide leadership across teams, help recruit and develop talent, and embody Best Buy's values and Way We Lead behaviors
- Bachelor's degree in IT, Computer Science, Engineering, Business or related field, or equivalent relevant professional experience.
- 9+ years of experience in Application, Infrastructure, Data, or Integration Architecture.
- 9+ years of modern development experience with Java or Kotlin, Spring Boot, REST web services and related technologies.
- 9+ years of recent cloud experience with AWS and/or GCP.
- 3+ years of experience in Advertising Technology
- Experience providing technical and operational leadership, including triaging and managing complex production issues.
- Strong collaboration skills with product managers and cross-functional teams.
- Experience with high-performance, multi-threaded, distributed Ad Serving applications handling thousands of requests per second.
- Strong understanding of the Ad delivery industry and associated terminology.
- Experience building cloud-native architectures, particularly in AWS using tools like EKS, RDS, Kinesis, DynamoDB, Aurora, and others.
- Experience building highly scalable and performant applications.
- Deep understanding of distributed system concerns: state management, caching, concurrency, threading, messaging, and inter-system dependencies.
