Job Description:Job OverviewFairview has an immediate opening for a Surgical Technologist at Wyoming Lakes Hospital located in Wyoming, MN.This is a 0.6 FTE, benefits-eligible opening on day shift, 12 hour shifts, every Saturday and Sunday, 7AM - 7PM, no weekend call.This position offers a $4500 New Hire Sign-On Bonus and a generous relocation bonus up to $5000.As a Surgical Technologist, you’ll assist in surgical procedures by preparing the operating room, arranging, and passing instruments to surgeons, and ensuring a sterile environment under the guidance of a Registered Nurse. You’ll play a crucial role in supporting the surgical team and maintaining the safety and efficiency of the operating room.As a Surgical Technologist, you will be responsible for:
  • Supplying appropriate instruments, suture, and specialty items.
  • Maintaining aseptic technique during all sterile procedures.
  • Ensuring accurate identification and handling of specimens.
  • Counting all required sponges, sharps, and instruments.
  • Assists other members of the team with terminal cleaning of room in readiness of next patient.
  • Aligns with and maintains knowledge of all relevant laws, regulation, policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Cultivates a culture of improvement, efficiency, and innovative thinking.
  • Assuring availability and accurate functioning of supplies and equipment.
  • Modifying clinical interventions based on population served.
  • Nurturing a culture of improvement, efficiency, and innovative thinking.
  • Anticipating the surgeon’s needs.
  • Following appropriate action in emergency situations.
Required Qualifications:
  • Complete one of the following by hire date:
  • Military Surgical Assistant; OR
  • Surgical Technologist training
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) through Health Care Providers (or ability to obtain by hire date)
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Graduate from an accredited Surgical Technologist program
  • AST certification or certification eligible at time of hire
  • 1 to 3 years surgical tech experience
Other Required Skills:
  • Knowledge of physical, psychosocial, and cognitive developmental needs of population served.
  • Knowledge of age-appropriate outcomes and interventions.

  • Ability to work well under a team environment.
Performs the functions of a surgical technologist as a scrub person during surgical procedures providing patient care services appropriate to the age of the patients (ages pediatric through geriatric) served during the shift of duty in collaboration with the RN. Is responsible for adhering to standards of nursing practice and patient care, correct use of supplies/equipment and maintenance of the surgical suite under the direction of an RN.Responsibilities
  • Serves as scrub person during operative procedures
  • Anticipates surgeon’s needs
  • Supplies appropriate instruments, suture, and specialty items.
  • Maintains aseptic technique during all sterile procedures.
  • Assures proper identification and handling of specimens.
  • Completes all required sponge, sharps, and instrument counts.
  • Follows appropriate action in emergency situations.
  • Provides patient care
  • Adheres to standards of clinical practice and patient care appropriate to the age of the patients.
  • Assists in transfer/positioning of patients.
  • Collaborates with the MD and circulating nurse to provide care for each patient.
  • Respects the confidentiality of all information.
  • Corrects use and setup of supplies and equipment
  • Assures availability and proper functioning of supplies and equipment.
  • Assembles and adjust equipment.
  • Cleans, replenishes, and sterilizes instruments and supplies as needed.
  • Participates in the evaluation of new equipment or supplies.
  • Assists other members of the team with terminal cleaning of room in readiness of next patient.
  • Demonstrates ability to provide care or service adjusting approaches to reflect developmental level and cultural differences of population served.
  • Partners with patient care giver in care/decision making.
  • Communicates in a respective manner.
  • Ensures a safe, secure environment.
  • Individualizes plan of care to meet patient needs.
  • Modifies clinical interventions based on population served.
  • Provides patient education based on as assessment of learning needs of patient/care giver.
Required Qualifications
  • Military surgical assistant or
  • Surgical technologist training
  • Basic Life Support (American Heart Assoc, Red Cross or MTN)
Preferred Qualifications
  • Graduate from an accredited Surgical Technologist program.
  • 1- 3 years surgical experience
  • AST Certification or certification eligible at time of hire
