Accounting SpecialistMISSION: Chileda's mission is to improve the quality of life for individuals with cognitive and behavior challenges. Chileda's goal is to help students increase their appropriate social behaviors and develop independent living skills, through an enriched learning environment and individualized behavior programming. Chileda's population includes children and young adults with special needs including Autism, Traumatic Brain Injury, Attachment Challenges, related developmental delays, and intensive behavioral needs.SUMMARY: The Accounting Specialist will assist Chileda's Finance Department with managing daily financial transactions, including accounts payable and receivable, bank reconciliations, monthly billing, and financial reporting. This role requires exceptional attention to detail, strong multitasking abilities, and a commitment to meeting tight deadlines. The Accounting Specialist also supports month-end and year-end closing processes, ensures compliance with financial regulations, and maintains accurate financial records using accounting software.REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
  • Requires an Associate's degree in Accounting or related field, or currently enrolled with a minimum of 2 years of relevant accounting experience
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant Accounting experience is preferred
  • Requires a high degree of organizational and analytical skills, as well as attention to detail
  • Must possess the ability and emotional stability to carry out all assigned
tasks * Prior insurance billing experience desired, but not required
  • Must be proficient in PC skills - Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Outlook
  • Experience with accounting software and Sage100 preferred
GENERAL HOURS OF DUTY:The standard hours for this position are 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday. Additional or flexible hours or days of work may be required. This is a benefit-eligible position averaging a minimum of 40 hours of work per week.REPORTS TO: Director of FinanceJOB DUTIES:
  • Assist with monthly journal entries and generate timely and accurate monthly financial statements by the
15th of the month. * Ability to efficiently and accurately record the day-to-day activities of accounts payable, credit card reconciliations, cash disbursements, cash receipts, investments, invoicing/billing, credit and collections, fixed asset records, and general ledger maintenance.
  • Create and maintain spreadsheets for student meal counts and monthly student attendance.
  • Maintain AP vendor listing, create new vendors as needed, and request W-9s.
  • Responsible for monthly student billing, including the accuracy and completeness of information and
insurance billing. * Assist with service contracts; helping ensure contracts are prepared, received, and signed beforeplacement of new students. * Assist with the annual Cost Report and DPI Report.
  • Assist with external audits, including financial statements, funder / county, and 401(k) retirement.
  • Serve as a liaison between parents, referring agencies, and school personnel to ensure accurate and timely billing by clearly communicating billing procedures, securing required documentation, resolving discrepancies, and providing ongoing account updates to support compliance.
  • Actively support and demonstrate the Chileda mission, vision, and values when interacting with peers,
coworkers, vendors, partners, business leaders, and external stakeholders. * Be knowledgeable of the rules, regulations, policies, procedures and accreditation standards that Chiledais required to follow relating to the Finance Department. * Maintain strict confidentiality of all financial records, vendor, and organizational data in accordance with HIPPA regulations, Chileda's policies and procedures, and all applicable laws and accounting standards.
