Description of WorkThe Eastern Nebraska Research, Extension and Education Center (ENREEC) is located near Mead and Ithaca, NE, within 40 minutes of both the Omaha and Lincoln metro areas. The site consists of approximately 9,663 acres with about half of the land base being row crops, both irrigated and non-irrigated, and half pasture. Over 6,000 domestic farm animals used for research and teaching reside onsite as well.As the Facilities Operations Technician II, you will:
  • Perform structural maintenance and construction tasks including carpentry, framing, concrete, masonry, drywall, flooring, painting, and fencing across buildings such as barns, sheds, warehouses, and livestock facilities.
  • Assist in maintaining and repairing utility systems and infrastructure, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, livestock water systems, waste lift stations, and fire suppression systems.
  • Support landscape maintenance activities such as planting, irrigation repair, turf and tree care, erosion control, pest management, snow removal, and general groundskeeping.
  • Operate and maintain a variety of equipment including trucks, tractors, mowers, plows, skid steers, snowblowers, sprayers, and hand tools.
  • Respond to facilities-related requests from academic departments to support research projects, and assist with setup and teardown for special events (e.g., tents, tables, chairs).
  • Maintain work logs and inventory records, coordinate tasks with other staff and contractors, and help manage maintenance and custodial supply levels.This position requires the ability to work in various weather conditions and may include occasional evening or weekend hours.
Irregular work hours at times due to equipment malfunctions. Working in temperature extremes are possible due to steam production and sub-freezing temperatures when working on building system operations. Lifting and moving of large equipment parts and/or building furnishings.A Commercial Driver's License and a Pesticide Applicator's License must be obtained within six months of hire. Must be able to work on ladders and travel between work areas as needed. Minimum Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent plus two years of general construction, repair, and maintenance, OR
  • Associate degree in general construction, repair, and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of basic construction practices, tools, and equipment used in general facility maintenance and repair.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs required.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to meet University driver eligibility requirements.
  • A Commercial Driver's License and a Pesticide Applicator's License must be obtained within six months of hire.
Preferred QualificationsThe following qualifications are preferred but not required:
  • Experience in skilled trades (carpentry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC), or a related field.
  • Experience working in agricultural, research, or campus environments.
  • Working knowledge of refrigeration and HVAC systems, electrical, carpentry, plumbing and concrete.
