AKBCU: Varies ICPA: VariesGeneral Functions:The Youth Employment Program (YEP) Intern participates in a 10-12 week internship designed to provide hands-on work experience by applying knowledge, skills, and abilities in focused areas of interest. This position exposes youth to various career fields through meaningful work assignments while providing assistance and support to designated worksite staff. Working in partnership with our people, YEP Interns develop opportunities that fulfill their endless potential by gaining real-world experience and building professional skills. The role serves as a bridge between education and employment, helping Alaska Native and American Indian youth explore career paths while contributing to their communities.Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assist with community conservation projects and cultural camp activities to support environmental and cultural preservation efforts.
  • Support Elder's programs within the community and assist at local animal shelters to develop service-oriented skills.
  • Perform administrative duties including filing, scanning, data entry, and maintaining electronic and physical records according to established systems.
  • Engage children in daily activities as assigned and support youth programming initiatives at various worksites.
  • Execute general grounds keeping, cleaning, and building maintenance tasks to maintain safe and welcoming environments.
  • Support basic construction labor and worksite preparation while following all safety protocols and procedures.
  • Assist with basic food preparation using appropriate equipment and following health and safety guidelines.
  • Screen clients by asking basic health questions and taking temperatures as needed in healthcare settings.
  • Troubleshoot and set up basic office equipment including computers, printers, and phones.
  • Identify and participate in goal setting processes to determine learning objectives and track professional development.
  • Develop verbal and written communication skills through daily workplace interactions and assignments.
  • Work effectively in team environments while demonstrating initiative and asking questions to enhance learning.
  • Apply math and language arts skills as related to specific job assignments and workplace requirements.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality according to regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Perform all related duties as needed and assigned.

  • Continued employment is contingent upon completion of satisfactory state and federal fingerprint criminal background check.
  • Must meet the minimum and maximum age requirements of 14 to 24 at time of application.
  • Must be eligible and qualified Alaska Native/American Indian applicants pursuant to P.L. 93-638 Indian Self-Determination Act.

  • May require prolonged periods of sitting, standing, and moving.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally, by utilizing proper lifting techniques and working in a safe manner.
  • May involve use of office equipment, tools, and other equipment as necessary. Possible bending, stooping, reaching, kneeling, and crouching.
  • Employees will refer to the Job Description Physical Requirements of the placement organization, which is provided in the Worksite Agreement, or Youth Intern Agreement.
