Fire protection engineer position working with a multidisciplinary architecture and engineering team on a variety of challenging projects.
Prepare basic deliverables and products such as presentation materials, calculations, design drawings, specifications, cost estimates related to fire protection engineering.
Review applicable codes and criteria and examine field conditions as required to support development and completion of projects.
Apply knowledge of the IBC and associated I-codes, as well as NFPA codes and standards including NFPA 13 and NFPA 14.
Utilize AutoCAD and Revit software to develop construction documents.
Demonstrate proficiency with Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, preparing technical memoranda and client presentations.
Prepare engineering calculations to support the design of fire protection systems.
May telecommute.
QualificationsCandidates must have a Bachelor's degree in Fire Protection Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field and 4 years of experience in the job offered or in a related occupation.Position requires: * Fire sprinkler system design, experience with both wet system and preaction system, in commercial, retail, warehouses and various types of construction.
Passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
Application of the Title 24 California Building Standards Code, International Building Code (IBC) and associated I-codes, as well as NFPA codes and standards including NFPA 13, NFPA 14, NFPA 20, NFPA 24, NFPA 25, and NFPA 291.
Field experience in fire protection, including survey of existing fire sprinkler system and facilities and verifying field conditions after installing.
Communicating with authorities having jurisdiction (AHJ) and with the plan review and submittal process.
Seismic bracing and hanger system design and calculation
Coordinating sleeve size and locations for beam and deck penetrations
Reviewing and preparing product data submittals for fire protection systems.
Engineering drafting software including AutoCAD, Revit, and BIM coordination in Navisworks including 3D clash detection.
Hydraulic calculation of sprinkler systems using computer software including HASS, AutoSPRINK, or HydraCALC.
