We have frequent team events, volunteer efforts, and we know how to celebrate wins!JOB SUMMARY & RESPONSIBILITIESThe Health & Safety Intern will assist the POET Bioprocessing supporting the safe/efficient operation of the bioprocessing facilities while meeting OSHA requirements and providing a safe work environment. The Health & Safety Intern will be responsible for assisting with the implementation of OSHA safety programs, supporting root cause analyses and data reviews, developing reports, and suggesting improvements or modifications to safety processes. This role will also contribute to the implementation of Process Safety Management initiatives, support fleet-wide safety initiatives, and assist in the development and delivery of safety training. The intern must be able to effectively work in a team environment both on site with the operations team as well as with contacts at the bioprocessing facilities.This is an on-site role located in Sioux Falls, SD. Responsibilities include:
  • Assist with the health and safety compliance of POET Bioprocessing facilities.
  • Complete analysis of permit conditions and limitations. Develop tools that summarize the permit conditions and limitations for management use in operations decision making.
  • Recommend improvements or corrective actions to close out H&S assessment items.
  • Develop implementation plans for continuous improvement projects.
  • Develop and prepare procedures
  • Assist with Health and Safety training.
  • Assist safety teams with program updates.
  • Foster a culture of safe behavior and environmental compliance at all times.

The POET Never Satisfied Internship openings are for Summer 2026. We post Internships in early September with the intention of having interns selected by November 1st.QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Junior or Senior level student pursuing a bachelor’s degree in an engineering, or industrial safety program.
  • Ability to learn and communicate company policy, procedures and educate team members on the value of these programs.
  • Excellent communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent organization and time management skills with a sense of urgency that drives results.
  • Knowledge of the basics of Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to learn new programs.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • Travel will be part of the norm for this position to visit the bioprocessing facilities, conduct training, provide compliance assistance and attend meetings. At times, overnight travel may be required.
  • This position operates in an office environment, working at a personal computer where you may sit or stand. Most of our Sioux Falls office workspace consists of an open-concept design intended to promote open communication and collaboration.
