We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer with our cable manufacturing division in Duncan, SC.The Senior Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the design and development of mechanical solutions that enhance and optimize AFL’s manufacturing equipment. This engineer will utilize their wide knowledge of mechanical engineering to apply engineering principles, theories, and concepts with the design of machine solutions that improve safety, performance, reliability, and efficiency.Responsibilities
  • Create and develop mechanical components and assemblies in SolidWorks CAD, applying Design for Manufacturability (DFM) principles.
  • Support manufacturing by retrieving, interpreting, and updating legacy engineering drawings.
  • Design and evaluate concepts based on performance, cost, and reliability, making decisions grounded in sound engineering principles.
  • Work independently to plan, process, and complete assignments efficiently.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop functional specifications and translate operational requirements into practical design solutions.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance equipment performance and exceed customer expectations.
  • Provide accurate cost estimates, schedules, task development, and project leadership when required.
  • Serve as a Mechanical Engineering technical resource and mentor within the engineering team.
  • Adhere to and promote AFL’s environmental, health, and safety policies.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • 10+ years’ relative work experience in mechanical design and engineering fundamentals.
  • Expert level with CAD software (SolidWorks preferred).
  • Knowledge of materials, manufacturing processes, and mechanical systems.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in collaborative team environments.

  • Ability to communicate effectively and clearly with individuals at all levels of the organization, vendors and contractors.
  • Ability to clearly articulate ideas and recommendations and deliver persuasive presentations.

Working Conditions
  • Work in a controlled manufacturing or office environment.
