ResponsibilitiesWorks under the direction of the Principal Investigator or higher-level laboratory personnel. Primary role is carrying out experiments.
  • Perform experiments at the bench level to support investigative work.
  • Prepare and maintain laboratory reagents, stocks, cultures or cell lines.
  • Perform and modify documented protocols and assays.
  • Maintain laboratory records and compile data on experiments and assays.
  • Interpret and report on experimental results.
  • Perform statistical analysis of test results and prepare written reports on work performed.
  • Operate and carry out basic maintenance of laboratory equipment.
  • Order and maintain appropriate levels of supplies.
  • May supervise work-study students.
  • Perform other duties as required.
Additional duties for Level II:
  • Identify methodological problems in research protocol and implement modifications to optimize experimental results.
  • Prepare and present written or oral progress reports concerning studies including assembly, organization, and interpretation of data.
  • Assist in the design of experiments; may be responsible for the performance of individual research projects.
  • Conduct literature reviews to assist in determining most suitable methods to be used in research.
QualificationsMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Research Technician I:
  • BA/BS in a relevant field.
  • Must have scientific knowledge in the area of study and basic laboratory skills.
  • Independent clinical or research experience in addition to school lab experience.
Research Technician II:All qualifications of level 1, plus:
  • 2 years of experience working in a laboratory or equivalent experience
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience culturing bacteria, and especially anaerobic bacteria; with protein expression, especially in vitro protein expression; with molecular biology, particularly digital PCR; and with automated liquid handling
  • Investment in community-led research efforts will be given preference.
