Job Summary/Basic FunctionThis position will perform general clerical and office duties for the Department of Social Work and Gerontology. Duties will also include assistance with scheduling, acquiring supplies, working with a variety of computer programs, financial and general record-keeping. The position requires discretion, judgment, and the ability to maintain private and sensitive information.
Required QualificationsRequired:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Two years secretarial, administrative and/or office manager experience.
  • Experience and proficiency in PC applications, including word processing, spreadsheets, database.
Preferred QualificationsPreferred:
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, multi-task, and meet deadlines with little supervision.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work as a team member.
  • Strong organizational and record management skills.
  • High level of professional judgment and confidentiality with ability to interface effectively with diverse clientele.

In these letters you not only congratulate them if they are accepted, but you also provide details as to next steps, contingencies to their acceptance, provide an advisor, and give them information on registration as needed. If denied, you may provide information as to what they may need to do to reapply, e.g., needing 60-63 credit hours, a minimum 2.5 gpa, registering for the 6 required prerequisite courses, etc. You may also provide them with contact information of the Chair or a potential advisor with whom to meet to discuss their progress.Please write and send us a sample letter addressed to one of the following students:Jeremy Little, who has been accepted into the program, but has a contingency in his acceptance. Contingency: he will need to complete his last required prerequisite courses (Zool 1020 and Anth 1000), one of which he is currently completing, with a C grade or higher. If he receives a C-, he will need to retake the class(es) to improve his grades. His assigned advisor: Dr. Kristina Moleni, with whom he may wish to meet on a regular basis to establish a graduation plan as well as remain on top of the plan or make changes as needed. Add anything else you think might be helpful to Jeremy as a new bachelor of social work student.Jessica Staley, who has been denied due to the following: only has 52 credit hours, her gpa is a 2.2, and she has a C- grade in two of the required prerequisite courses, SW 1010 and Psyc 1010. She also needs to register for the remaining 4 prerequisite courses: SW 2100, Soc 1010, Anth 1000, and Zool 1020 and pass them with a C grade or higher. You can provide her with contact information of a potential advisor and/or the dept. chair for further assistance. Add anything else you think may be a help to her as she works to fulfill the requirements to reapply to the program.For qualification determination, your application and/or resume must address the required and preferred qualifications and must contain average number of hours worked per week and the dates of employment (i.e., month/year to month/year or month/year to present).
